AOC says we need to abolish all prisons in the United States

@soar2newhighs I don't know about naive. First off all we have is this random person's word this even happened, no quotes, no sources, nothing. And by any metric the way the US handles corrections right now is a complete failure. Literally the only metric where it succeeds is making oligarchs who own CCA and other private prisons very wealthy. Fun fact, CCA also lobbies congress to make random things have prison sentences so they can make more money.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Some of her particular comments require her to go into the real world where many she says should not be incarcerated -who just so happen to be beneficiaries of no cash bail laws, release from being held due to covid -19; should spend time in that environment. Hey, Barbara Boxer got assaulted/robbed a few days ago. Ms. Cortez could easily meet a similar or worse fate ( not that I wish that on her). This is why I call her naive.

And work in the real world? She was a working class average person till what? 2 years ago?

As opposed to most of her critics who are career politicians who have never held a real job in their lives.

And most people in US prisons are in there for basically smoking or dealing weed. Hardly people who need to be locked up and given a death sentence with a super spreader event waiting to happen.

Oh and the COs and their families don't have a magic force field that would keep them safe either from covid.

Legalized? Nice fantasy. The feds completely ignore even the 2 states that have legalized it.

That is the point, keeping everyone in that prison would have killed massive numbers of people.
