IS Trump actually a Republican?

I think not.

I think first and foremost he is a narcissist.
And then a businessman.
And then a politician.
And then a republican.

I don't think he particularly cares what gives him power and attention as long as he gets it.

Trump has made it abundantly clear thug he couldn’t care less about Republican, Democrat or whatever. He has no interest outside feeding his ego and enriching his family’s coffers.

@SpiritualMan

Yeah...if i were you i'd try to rely more on logic and facts because that road leads to paranoia and wearing a tinfoil hat.

He is neither a Republican nor a Democrat. He is on his own side and doesn't give a crap about anyone else, not even his own supporters.

@SpiritualMan To quote another member here:
Trump is there to benefit himself commercially. He's not there to do anything beneficial for the USA as a sovereign country.
That's the truth.

Of course not, but most self professed Republicans these days are Trumpists who have rejected morality entirely.
You judt made a sweeping statement about people you don’t know. You don’t know everyone’s reason for being a republican or pro Trump. @MistyCee
@Spoiledbrat Hmm. I guess I really should have said I believe.

Is there a reason to support Trump that's consistent with JudeoChristean morality?

I've yet to hear one. but I'm all ears.

Trump is a narcissistic bully who cannot show empathy. An exact mirror of my ex partner.
helenS · 36-40, F
@zonavar68 Poor you 🌸
He goes along with some Republican positions, but you're right, he's not a conventional Republican the way George W. Bush was. In the past, he's been a registered Democrat, and he previously considered running for president on the Reform Party ticket. However, he's tapped into a current of xenophobia, racism, and white nationalism that the Republican party has been cultivating for decades. Given that around 80% of Republican voters support him, the Republican party has essentially become the Party of Trump. So in that way, he epitomizes the Republican party of today.

I don't think he has any loyalty to the GOP beyond what it can do for him. When he's out of office, he won't follow the "Reagan rule" which was "never speak ill of another Republican." He doesn't even follow that rule now.

Why does it matter?
@Budwick

Sorry to upset you bud.
That's just my opinion
I am fully confident that history will remember this man as a childish, narcissistic embarrassment of a president and after he loses the protection of his office, even more of his sordid and petulant doings will be brought to light.🤷‍♀️
Budwick · 70-79, M
@monte3
he proved the allegations!
It was all about alleged collusion.
And then, NO examples, evidence or proof followed.

monte3 · 70-79, M
Ok I was referring to the Ukraine blackmail. Which is usually what you are yptalking about when Schiff comes up. Those allegations were proven, it’s just that as could be predicted the Republicans didn’t care. @Budwick

Carla · 61-69, F
He most definately is a narcissist, likely a sociopath.
A failed businessman.
A failed politician(to most all, excluding his cult).
And in no manner, a republican.

With so many declared Republicans that have become members of the trump party(cultists), it makes me question the values and standards that Republicans used as their platform for years.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Pikachu 🙂
I reckon he was successful at becoming a politician, less so at being one.
@Carla

lol yeah actually that sounds about right
@Carla Did you know that in the bible God greatly used an adulterer and murderer, and called him "a man after His own heart". Now given, this man DID REPENT of the adultery and murder, God DID punish him but He also continued to bless this man until his death. Who do you think this man was?
Jasondf · M
Exactly. Thank you.
Jasondf · M
I’ve always thought this@SimplyTracie
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Jasondf That’s unusual to hear. I thought all of SW guys in uniform have only tremendous things to say about Trump. Never would I have imagined anyone would admit that he’s a narcissist.
@SimplyTracie You'd be surprised how many military members despise Cadet Bone Spurs. This is why Trump won't be able to pull off a military coup to stay in power. His statement last week that he would accept losing to Biden and would leave office may have been in response to military leaders telling him that they will be loyal to the Constitution and not him if he loses.
monte3 · 70-79, M
Trump is a narcissist first for most and entirely. No empathy, no bigger goals, no con cerns beyond himself.

As ususal the OP is asking the wrong question.

Republicans aren't republican for the most part!

Many have lost their way and became swamp dwellers.

President Trump, as a conservative is weeding them out, making America Great Again!
@Budwick You really need lessons in how to tell a joke, you're as bad at it as Trump

Trump is there to benefit himself commercially. He's not there to do anything beneficial for the USA as a sovereign country.
@zonavar68

Couldn't agree more.
His goals are first and foremost to achieve attention and prestige.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
No. Trump is apolitical. Both sides of politics are about views for the people. Trump is on his own side always.
@whowasthatmaskedman
Trump is on his own side always.
Bingo
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
He’s neither a politician or a Republican

He was elected principally because he’s not a politician.

He’s is the worst kind of RINO. The only reason Republicans back him is to hold off the Democrats.

Of course, the Democrats are so useless that they can barely keep up.

Go figure.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@JoeyFoxx Trump may not have been a politician but he knew how to play people and most politicians are very skilled at that so he fit right in.
@JoeyFoxx

He's absolutely a politician. Just not a career politician.
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
What made me want to vote for him is in the anti Trump ads of him saying, “and you can tell them to go fuck themselves” That was my moment of enlightenment. Fucking love him!!!

Exactly right. There is a reason why more and more Republicans are beginning to distance themselves from this guy.

He cares only about himself.
@Peapod

Yeah it's gotta be getting hard to tow the line.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Pikachu He once was a democrat and then changed that for the opportunity to run. He upholds no one's values.
SW-User
While registered as a Dem, he claimed if he ever ran it would be as a Rep because they are the easiest to manipulate.

He's independent/narcissist party of one.
@SW-User

lol
@SW-User I've seen that meme. He actually didn't say that. But as it turns out, the meme is accurate anyway.

I don’t believe he’s a narcissist he doesn’t have the symptoms of one
@Budwick
It's all contestable!
Then contest it instead of attacking me.

You never do. You can never debate me, only complain about me.
You're a fun diversion from debating people who actually make me think but nothing more.
Just a wounded snowflake.

But feel free to impress me.
Go ahead and make a case why Trump does not display the qualities of narcissism.
Explain how the man who made fun of his opponent's health, looks and names is actually likeable.

Go on....
No?
lol yeah, didn't think so.

Not the picture of him but the rest of it. @Pikachu
@Spoiledbrat

....well you'll notice that the list is preceded by "i think" lol

I mean he is a narcissist and a businessman and a politician and technically a republican.
I just put them in order of relevance as descriptors of the man.

No he is not a Republican he even admitted as much a few years ago saying if he would run he would run as a Republican because they would be easy to manipulate
@KaraLuvz

Well that's actually not true. I looked it up.
But i agree that he only ran as a Republican because they were the ones that would allow him to succeed.

@SpiritualMan LOL none of that has actually happened.

How about blowing up the deficit and lowering the standing of the US internationally? Trump has done damage that we may never recover from. It's becoming obvious that the best days of the US are behind it and like any empire, we're on the decline. That won't happen overnight; it's a series of events that by themselves may not be significant, but taken together are devastating. I think future historians will mark the beginning of the decline with Trump's term, but the roots go back to Reagan's presidency.
