Rip old puppy I knew the risks of taking in a senior dog but I don't regret it for a second....

Right before vet school, I adopted a 9 yo dog in rough shape. She damn near made it to my graduation. That includes outliving her cancer prognosis. My favorite shelter work experience was approving a 10yo Chihuahua mix for an 8yo girl that chose her on a name-your-price day with the money she’d earned. Adopting older pets is always an indication of good humanity to me. Thank you for giving them a good loving home for their final years. I know it made a difference for their life. I’m sorry for your loss. But, you gave them the safety of a home for their final years. That is not underestimated by them or those who work with them.

I've been where you are - adopted a female dog, German Shepherd cross breed that had been in rescue for four years some years back, she had three years with me was so sweet and i was gutted to lose her :-(

Thank you for making the dog's final years happy ones. We only adopt dogs 5 to 7 years old, and they are a joy. They are worth the pain, the terrible pain, of letting them go.

I'm sorry for your loss... please find comfort in the knowledge that he was warm and loved when he crossed Rainbow Bridge rather than crossing the Bridge alone on the concrete floor of some kennel somewhere.
