@matthewjames no they dont cost much. Depends what breed and color. But you could get a couple for $20 at the most.

If you’re concerned about a little effort, don’t get a pet ant all - you’ll probably neglect it. Pets are partners - they enrich your life. A little effort makes the pleasure of owing a pet much greater. I have a dog - undoubtedly my best friend. I clean up after him, vacuum the car twice a week, take him to the dog park, brush him, and love him.

The easiest pet I ever had was my rats. They are so low maintenance. Play with them a little every day to maintain socialization. Refill their food and water once a week. As long as you have a sizeable cage you only need to clean it like once or twice a month, less if you use cage liners like newspaper. And rats are affectionate and intelligent. You can teach them tricks and their names and they bond to you.

I don't think it's ever easy to properly care for a pet honestly, but I recommend something small like a hamster or guniepig. I saw someone recommending goldfish, but I heard that fish are actually very high maintenance, and you need to have quite a bit of knowledge about them, like diet, tank space and cleaning, diseases and whatnot, so I don't recommend that.

If you're taking care of an animal properly to provide them the highest possible quality of life in captivity, probably none of them.
Maybe insects.

A snail all you do is go some where in your yard and find snails, it’s free and all they do is eat leaves and flowers and drink a little bit of water
