Where did your ancestors immigrate from?

Top | New | Old
4meAndyou · F
My maternal grandfather's ancestors have lived here in the United States since the earliest colonial days in Jamestown, Virginia, and prior to that, most of them were from Wiltshire, England. My maternal grandmother's ancestors immigrated here from Edinburgh in Scotland when the early mining railroads were being built in Pennsylvania.

My paternal grandfather's father immigrated here from Tortworth, Gloucestershire, England. My paternal great grandmother was born in Dursley, Gloucestershire, England, and they married in North Nibley. They immigrated to the United States in 1882 and settled in Iowa.

My paternal grandmother's father and grandfather and so on can only be traced back to the early days of Pennsylvania, with no records prior to 1814 in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania.

My paternal grandmother's maternal ancestors were mostly from Germany...Hessen and Bavaria, mainly. Some were from Buckinghamshire, England, and one or two were from Ireland.

My dad and his parents were born and raised in Bermuda. Their parents are from the Azores and Brazil. My mom‘s family came to Canada in the 1700s. Her mom‘s side is Irish/Ashkenazi and her dad side are English.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F

Adrift · 61-69, F
@Jenny1234 Oh the big Island.
My son just met a guy at work from Sao Miguel, he said we are all probably cousins.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Adrift I’ve heard that too. I know that I’m related to almost all of the Portuguese people in Bermuda. Walk down the street there and people come up to me and say aren’t you Manny’s daughter lol
WestonTexan · 18-21, M
Both of my parents' ancestors are from Latin America. My dad was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, and his parents were from Argentina and of Spanish descent. My mom was born in the U.S., but she has Brazilian ancestry (including some German and Irish immigrant ancestors who came to Brazil in the 1800s).

My maternal side settled in Connecticut and Massachusetts, from England in the late 1600's with at least 4 of them fighting in the Revolutionary War.

My paternal side were Quakers who fled religious oppression in Norway in the late 1800's. They immigrated and established farms in northern Iowa and North Dakota.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
On my dad's side, from Scotland. Not sure on his paternal line, my great-grandfather was killed when my grandfather was six and we don't know much about that line.

On mom's side, Germany and Hungary.

The one that I can put a name, date, and place with came here from around Hess (in what is now Germany) in the late 1740's. Beyond that one, there seems to be some from Scotland and Ireland, possibly England and France, plus traces of Native American, Sub Saharan and North African DNA.
My black ancestors were slaves brought to the U.S. from Nigeria and Haiti. My French and North African ancestors were indentured servants, and I had a least one indigenous American ancestor.

My dads side German came to the US in the 1700s.
My moms side migrated from Portugal via Elis Island.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
No idea. My relations have managed to trace our family back only a few generations.

Really, most Britons and Northern Europeans generally might seem right mongrels if you could reliably trace our ancestries back at least a thousand years.

The key word is "reliably", so by proper records; ruling out these dubious DNA-testing companies that ignore the logarithmic nature of genetics!
HiFiRaver · 18-21, M
