My maternal grandfather's ancestors have lived here in the United States since the earliest colonial days in Jamestown, Virginia, and prior to that, most of them were from Wiltshire, England. My maternal grandmother's ancestors immigrated here from Edinburgh in Scotland when the early mining railroads were being built in Pennsylvania.
My paternal grandfather's father immigrated here from Tortworth, Gloucestershire, England. My paternal great grandmother was born in Dursley, Gloucestershire, England, and they married in North Nibley. They immigrated to the United States in 1882 and settled in Iowa.
My paternal grandmother's father and grandfather and so on can only be traced back to the early days of Pennsylvania, with no records prior to 1814 in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania.
My paternal grandmother's maternal ancestors were mostly from Germany...Hessen and Bavaria, mainly. Some were from Buckinghamshire, England, and one or two were from Ireland.
