In countries with high levels of democracy - do they require voter ID?
No.
Y'all liars should! Absolutely. No cred is all the cred you need! No legitimacy is all y'all ever needed!

I registered to vote many years ago, and at that time you did need several forms of ID. I believe the current push is more at the time of voting itself, even if you are registered. Most of us do not carry a birth certificate, or even a passport with us. The memories of the time in Europe where everyone had to carry "papers," is not a pleasant one. The thought leads to fears of voter suppression and a totalitarian state.

Up until Donald Trump and his unproven unsubstantiated accusations about voter fraud in the 2020 election. The states that didn't require state ID to vote relied on voter registration and with very little to no fraud.
It seems to be the idea of Republicans, especially Trump much of the poor doesn't have identification and if ID is required the poor can't vote and the poor generally votes Democrat. They may not have the money to pay for the birth certificate and ID from department of public safety, may not have transportation to get to either place. Hopefully before the 2026 election these states will make a way for people to at least acquire free transportation to those either or both of those departments.
And I pray they don't do rezoning like they did here in Texas changing Democrat areas to Republican areas.

Nonsense. They were concerned with vote integrity over a quarter of a century back. That was the purpose of forming the Carter-Baker Commission.
"In 2005, the United States was in the fifth year of efforts to reform its election system. The hotly contested and controversial 2000 presidential election had identified flaws in the nation’s registration and voting laws that were seen as contributing to a lack of confidence in election outcomes."

The "new documents" are dated 2021, so the Democrats had over three years to bring significant charges against Trump, instead of the overblown "34 felony" lawfare cases in NY, which ended up doing the Democrats more political harm than good in the 2024 election.
As for voter fraud, nobody knows the extent of it. To find out, one would have to establish a non-partisan commission that thoroughly vets something on the order of 100,000 ballot records at random to check for fraud; e.g., a vote from a dead person or someone who has left the district, or someone who isn't a citizen.
But somehow, there seems to be a marked reluctance to do that, especially among Democrats.

I can understand how you might be confused. It's because you're engaging in a false equivalency. A common MAGA tactic.
Here's what Fox told you:
The key word is registered voters. Meaning (paraphrasing for your benefit), that they already presented proof of citizenship, to become REGISTERED VOTERS.
But I'm sure you're from New York. Right? Because if the Mayor invited everyone to become an emergency snow shoveler, and did not vet them, and one of them kills, rape or rob someone, you will probably say that the "communist, jihadist Muslim Mamdani" is unleashing rapists and murderers.
BTW, the Mayor of New York has absolutely no say in voter registration laws.
But MAGA be MAGA.

The emergency snow shovelers work for the city. Their ID requirement ensure that they are citizens and that their pay will be reflected on their Social Security earnings.
Since you seemed to have missed it, Mamdami doesn't have a damn thing to do with setting voting quaifications. Did you sleep through high school civic lessons?
Supposedly you have to have ID and a social security number to shovel snow, but that is not needed to vote! Does that make sense?

If you want to go shovel snow off the public sidewalks, nobody's going to stop you. If you want to be on government payroll, you need ID like any other job. Seems pretty reasonable.
EBSVC · 41-45, T
Because requiring ID for the snow stuff is the current law and most people don’t seem to have a problem with that
The voter ID stuff is changing the law to address a problem that no one has shown actually exists, which means it will just make it harder to vote for no actual reason

Yes, it makes absolutely perfect sense if you want unidentified people voting.

@Thinkerbell People provide ID when registering to vote. This whole voter ID charade stems from Trump’s endless, bottomless obsession with the 2020 election.

When I registered to vote about 25 years ago, all I had to show was a driver's license, and I didn't have to prove citizenship to get that license. Does the board of elections check to see if their registrants are all citizens? I doubt it. They don't even take dead or moved voters off the rolls for years.

Because Marxism is about financial and social governmental control. They don't care who votes when they control who counts the votes.

@Ken4family But Marxism is not a prevalent political ideology in the US.

Most jobs require identification cards to work, hell I won't even hire anyone without a fishing license

Its the old fashioned easy do ID
Some of us here act like an extra $30 for hard honest work...should be a suspicious idea.
Its an ignorance and false superiority kind of thing....yup yup...and it pollutes this forum big time...every time I tune in here.

It's not the actual ID most of us ba e a problem with. It's the timing and methods proposed. Want viter ID? Fine. The time to demand one isnt right before am election. There's a reason younonly hear about it immediately before an election. To demand one you need to implement somethjng that puts a free, easily obtained, and never expiring, and easily replaced ID card well before an election. Otherwise it's a ruse to disenfranchise the people.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@MethDozer no one has ever really shown any significant voter fraud in the US!
MethDozer · M
@samueltyler2 From my understanding a national ID has been propsed and tried several times in the past but it always met strong opposition on civil liberties and States rights grounds.🙄
I forget the exact case and details of it, bjt there was even a big to do when Social Security card were first introduced and attempts made of them having a photo on them as it then it becoming a form of national ID and legislators ans the public having a strong opposition to that possibilty. What I am getting at it is there is this weird long standing notion agaisnt ID on a national level where a a fully functioning and effective for both security and the individual voter ID could be possible without it denying citizens.
