I've only grown romaine because it's much more healthy. My biggest issue with it is rabbits and insects. You will need a good fence and natural pesticide.

I usually grow rows of mixed greens, not lettuce with formed heads because I seem to get more per square foot...but I do grow Napa Cabbage - and I'm always spraying them with Neem oil otherwise squash bugs decimate them and hide in the leaves///

I have never grown those due to Oklahoma getting too warm so soon and stunting the growth and causing them to go to seed too soon. Black-seeded Simpson lettuce, which is a leaf lettuce, does good here till it gets hot.

Many years ago! They're very easy, of what I remember - just keep them watered.

When I read head lettuce I thought you were going to grow lettuce on your head instead of hair. I guess that shows my level of expertise, so I'll refrain from giving you any tips.

Get a small rodent fence and pesticide also use a very gentle fertilizer depending on the climate that you were in

Hard rains will hill your heads with dirt. Keep an eye out and cover them during if possible

Space em out

Lettuce grows best within a temperature range from 45 to about 80f degrees. Hot weather makes it bitter & burnt; extreme cold freezes it to death.

@ShenaniganFoodie thank you :) that is very helpful

get them in early, don't pluck them cut off the leaves and they'll regrow. once it gets hot they go to seed and are useless

Snails love them. Make sure you put some snail bait out
