Tina Turner’s real name was Anna Mae Bullock. She was born on November 26, 1939. In some of her early years she lived in Nutbush, Tennessee.

Tina starred in 17 films, released 10 studio albums, and received 20 awards throughout her career. Tina sold over 200 million albums over her 6 decade career.

Tina met Ike Turner at a performance by his band, the ‘Kings of Rhythm’, in 1956, and soon became part of the act. The band later toured as Ike and Tina Turner Revue. “A Fool in Love” hit the pop charts in 1960 and a many hit singles followed. Ike and Tina were married in 1962. The couple later divorced in 1978 due to cocaine addicted Ike’s abuse of Tina.

In 1973 Tina said she turned to Buddhism to improve her life and never looked back.

Until 1983, Turner was considered a nostalgia act, performing mostly at hotel ballrooms and clubs in the United States. After various guest appearances on the albums of other artists, she released her debut solo album, ‘Private Dancer’ in 1984. It was a critical and commercial success selling more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Two movies Tina appeared in are The Who’s ‘Tommy’ as the Acid Queen in 1975 and the classic Mel Gibson film ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome’ in 1985. She also has a cameo in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Last Action Hero’ movie of 1993, playing the Mayor.

In 1988, Tina Turner toured the world for her 1986 album,‘Break Every Rule’.During her show in Rio De Janeiro, she set a then-Guinness World Recordfor the largest paying audience for a solo performer, selling180,000 tickets.

In 2013, three weeks after her wedding to Erwin Bach, Tina suffered a stroke and she had to learn to walk again.

In 2016 Tina was diagnosed with intestinal cancer and later had a kidney transplant in 2017. On May 24, 2023, Tina died at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, aged 83, following her long illness.

Tine Turner was the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll and will forever be remembered.

Just read that on the news. She was sensational, both with Ike and solo

Oh, man! HUGE loss to music in a ton of ways. Even Mick Jagger said he copped his moves from Tina. RIP LEGEND.

It seems everday we lose someone iconic and irreplaceable. I think she was one of the top singers of all time and even in 100 years time people will still listen to her music.

@meggie I often wonder about the last statement that you made. I do enjoy opera, and classic music, also big band sounds of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, etc., will people listen in even 20 years?
She had that one song. I never really liked her. I didn't hate or anything. I just did't see it.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Spoiledbrat she was an amazing show woman, very sensual as well.
@samueltyler2 I didn't pay a lot of attention to musicians or famous people and what they were about or accomplished back then. I just did my own life. I was really busy in my 20's because I worked and was a student so there was that too. I'm not trying to be rude but I wouldn't have any reason to care if she was sensual. I used to wonder what all the hype about her was because it was clear to me that she was received well. I couldn't figure out why. Lots of people have good voices.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Spoiledbrat believe me I was busy, went from high school to college, to medical school, residency, had very little free time. I was not a groupie, but aware.

There are a lot of very talented artists, music and visual, and very few are lucky enough to make it big. Look at that day's performers though, strip away their special effects, special audio, and could they stand up to those in the past?

So many to choose from but I think this is simply the best!

She was a terrific talent and will be missed.
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
That's simply the best news ever.
She was adaptable as a product for generations, switching to match the current taste in beer nuts and side dishes, like the music gals without pants we all remember.

I don't particularly care for celebrities but apparently her life inspired others and so she's probably got a higher standing to my mind than many others.
Busybee333 · 31-35, F
She is most likely rocking heaven's stage with Michael Jackson, Prince and every other musical legend you can think of... in all genres... Unique voices make every song flawless! She may be physically gone but I am certain that her energy is still more alive than ever 💜

Nobody can replace her. She had raw talent and was a bundle of energy, a firecracker combination.
What a "tragic" shock! She was only 83. 🙄
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
