Tina Turner’s real name was Anna Mae Bullock. She was born on November 26, 1939. In some of her early years she lived in Nutbush, Tennessee.

Tina starred in 17 films, released 10 studio albums, and received 20 awards throughout her career. Tina sold over 200 million albums over her 6 decade career.

Tina met Ike Turner at a performance by his band, the ‘Kings of Rhythm’, in 1956, and soon became part of the act. The band later toured as Ike and Tina Turner Revue. “A Fool in Love” hit the pop charts in 1960 and a many hit singles followed. Ike and Tina were married in 1962. The couple later divorced in 1978 due to cocaine addicted Ike’s abuse of Tina.

In 1973 Tina said she turned to Buddhism to improve her life and never looked back.

Until 1983, Turner was considered a nostalgia act, performing mostly at hotel ballrooms and clubs in the United States. After various guest appearances on the albums of other artists, she released her debut solo album, ‘Private Dancer’ in 1984. It was a critical and commercial success selling more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Two movies Tina appeared in are The Who’s ‘Tommy’ as the Acid Queen in 1975 and the classic Mel Gibson film ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome’ in 1985. She also has a cameo in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Last Action Hero’ movie of 1993, playing the Mayor.

In 1988, Tina Turner toured the world for her 1986 album,‘Break Every Rule’.During her show in Rio De Janeiro, she set a then-Guinness World Recordfor the largest paying audience for a solo performer, selling180,000 tickets.

In 2013, three weeks after her wedding to Erwin Bach, Tina suffered a stroke and she had to learn to walk again.

In 2016 Tina was diagnosed with intestinal cancer and later had a kidney transplant in 2017. On May 24, 2023, Tina died at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, aged 83, following her long illness.

Tine Turner was the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll and will forever be remembered.
