The song originally wasn't even about Christmas, the lyrics changed over time because the original author meant it as a dedication to another singer who had a troupe that performed in blackface. It wasn't even a Christmas song. Originally, the person who wrote the song was a staunch supporter of the confederacy that fiercely opposed his father who was an minster and a major abolitionist against slavery.

There is nothing racist in the lyrics. Just because someone, at some point, sang the song in Black Face, doesn't make the song racist. They're grabbing at straws on this one.
