Jingle Bells Declared Racist

When will this stop. A school in New York has banned singing Jingle Bells because it is racist. Apparently, it was sung at some minstrel shows during the 1800's.

What next ??? Canceling Rudolph ???

Calm down Cindy, no ones gonna break into your home and steal your Christmas decorations. This is sensationalism at play like it is 99% of the time.
@HijabaDabbaDoo right? I mean there is legit racist shit going down everyday, all over the place. This feels like a play to diminish it by making something stupid seem important?

@HijabaDabbaDoo I am just getting tired of this stupidity.

According to the article, it's racist because it was sung at black-face minstrel shows about 150 year ago.
@NCCindy one of the best ways to discredit a POV you disagree with is to belittle it by making it seem irrational and absurd. political trickery.
@NCCindy a lot of songs were and are dark in nature and history. Nursery rhymes for example. Racist, misogynistic and some just detailing murder. Quite disturbing considering children sing it. Noting this isn't a bad thing. However it's a personal choice and no one's on the streets demanding otherwise until the news makes them feel like they have to.
The point being, there's bigger issues and this isn't at the forefront for people who care about racism. No ones coming for Jingle Bells and if they are or have been, have you been personally effected by it?
@HijabaDabbaDoo I've definitely seen where some segments of society hold on to the "good old days".

my take is, just because it's old, doesn't mean its good, and the GOOD old days...weren't

@NCCindy who even knew that? Who cares? There is nothing in that song that is a tiny bit racist.

@SHREKPage you must be fun at parties 🙄

@HijabaDabbaDoo The calm down Cindy is my favorite.
@HijabaDabbaDoo Exactly, there are bigger issues so why does a school have to ban it and take away people's personal choice to sing it? They're turning something that's not a big deal, into a big deal.
@Tastyfrzz Why are you guys acting like Cindy is the one who made a big deal and called it racist? That was done when the school banned it. Not when Cindy made this post.
@SinlessOnslaught I don't really care.
This selective outrage is a pointless argument and not representative of the wider world.
@HijabaDabbaDoo It is though.
@SinlessOnslaught how is this affecting you?

@StrawberryMilkshake Not everyone is going to make the same point at the same exact time. It starts one place, then spreads.

@HijabaDabbaDoo Right now, it's not. And I'd like it to stay that way.

@StrawberryMilkshake The fact that a public school run by our government banned an innocent song and so many people here are willing to ignore it, proves that it's spreading too fast.

@StrawberryMilkshake Yes, believe it or not, not every school board in the country is going to make the same decision at the same time.

The federal government is not a niche group. This is a big deal.

@StrawberryMilkshake I was physically accosted in public by same crazy lady complaining about racism because I didn't stop at a stop sign that only existed in her imagination. The police came code 2 (no lights and siren) and everyone around was telling ME to leave her alone and not to touch her because she's a minority.

I also regularly get made fun of to my face for having a "black" name even though it's Italian.

People are being hunted down and killed for perceived racial injustices and no one talks about it. You probably don't know what I'm talking about because... no one talks about it.

People get banned on YouTube, the biggest video platform, for perceived racial slurs toward one group, and not toward the other. Those ones stay up.

And now, a school has banned a Christmas song (free speech) for another perceived racial slur.

"It" has come. It's already here.
