Jingle Bells Declared Racist

When will this stop. A school in New York has banned singing Jingle Bells because it is racist. Apparently, it was sung at some minstrel shows during the 1800's.

I'm a lot more concerned about "Brown Sugar" by the Stones, a song whose lyrics I had never read or understood before. I'm through with that one.

@Harmonium1923 What about Lou Reed's Walk On the Wild Side?

@Harmonium1923 *Hurl* I love that song.

@bijouxbroussard Yep. I swear I cringe and turn to another channel on the radio when that song comes on. Sadly, outside of that line, I like the song. But I've never been able to listen to it after the first time I heard the refrain.
@SW-User Funny thing is, that song came out when I was around 12, and my friends and I were singing along. I don’t remember any of us taking offense. It was Lou Reed. 😃

@bijouxbroussard lol. Yes, as kids we generally don't pick up on things that are considered normal, back in the day. I don't really recall when I became aware of it but I was young.
