IncredibleMom · 36-40, F
@Starcrossed what an often overlooked classic

helenS · 36-40, F
Here are three of my favorites:
(1) The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
(2) Forbidden Planet (1956)
(3) Blade Runner (1982)

@SomeAreBoojums "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" being one of them! In a sense, Philip K. Dick redefined SF in his work.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Elevatorpitches Definitely Harrison does not have enough chest hair.
Byron8by7 · M
A tossup between " 2001: A Space Odyssey " and " Blade Runner (The Director's Cut) "
@Byron8by7 forgot about 2001.
SW-User
@Byron8by7 added blade runner to my Netflix list. Thanks
Byron8by7 · M
@SW-User Certainly. Make sure it is The Director's Cut, the version director Ridley Scott wanted.
@SW-User its free on Internet Archive
Northwest · M
@Elevatorpitches One of the most depressing movies I've ever seen.
@Northwest no it wasnt...he got to the stars and he deserved it, it was a triumph of the spirit and will. It was a human movie with a sci fi backdrop....

The Matrix
Best show The Expanse

@SW-User it's really good I just finished season 6 final season and now I am going to read the books I liked it so much
room101 · 51-55, M
@SW-User The Expanse is awesome. Watched every season as it came out..............and then binge watched them all again when season six finished😂😂😂
Fishy · 36-40, F
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

The Matrix
G00GLE · 26-30, M
Great responses so far. I want to add Event Horizon because it's just a fun movie.
G00GLE · 26-30, M
@DarkHeaven i enjoy the whole concept of hell but it's scifi. Love it in doom, love it in event horizon. "where we're going we don't need eyes" what a fucking badass line.
@G00GLE yup.
@G00GLE it’s like Sci fi meets hellraiser.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
Dune (1984)
The Terminator (1984)
Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)
I am Legend (2007)
District 9 (2009)
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
@SubstantialKick that's a nice list, really happy you put Dune in there, so many people consider Dune to be a bad movie, I think its an incredible movie.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@reflectingmonkey It was ahead of its time in my opinion.
I also really liked the first Dune… and the reboot of BattleStar Galicia was great, as far as TV.
SW-User
@DarkHeaven gotta look for those
VirginMatchmaker · 46-50, M
Sci Fi would probably be Blade Runner because the visuals for 1982 were simply stunning.
If you included Sci Fantasy the answer would be different.
Byron8by7 · M
@VirginMatchmaker Blade Runner was made without CGI. All of the "special effects" were done with models of the city, as well as actual sets, etc.
VirginMatchmaker · 46-50, M
@Byron8by7 exactly and yet it looked so so so good. Everything was right with the Cinematography and how they brought it to life.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
although the special effects have not aged well and today look old and although it was considered by some to be a flop, the 1084 david Linch's "Dune" is one of my favorite sci-fi movies. I also think the original matrix is maybe the best sci-fi movie ever made. when it came out it really revolutionised what we expect from a sci-fi movie.
G00GLE · 26-30, M
@reflectingmonkey well that's depressing. Have you been to a doctor?
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
@G00GLE no, I should
@G00GLE
Lynch's dune is like trippin without trippin.
Yeah, I can see that.

Personally, I didn't love Lynch's Dune because some of the science looked wrong; particularly the ornithopters. No way those clunky things would fly. The ornithopters in the new Dune are genius though!
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Probably Alien.
SW-User
@uncalled4 damn Haven't seen. I love movies on aliens
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@SW-User Put that on your list. Between that and the 1982 version of The Thing, the ensemble cast in those movies is amazing. Those 2 films are often imitated.
SW-User
@uncalled4 great. Thanks for ur recommendation
4thdimensiondream · 61-69, M
Alien, Jurassic Park, Andromeda strain, Poltergeist, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Birds (sci-fi?) Crack in the World, The Stand (90s tv series). I’m leaving out about 100!
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
MildlyInappropriate · 51-55, M
Beat me to it - loved this one, because it completely exposes us as a "shoot first, ask questions later" species, especially when we lack understanding. @SkeetSkeet
SW-User
@SkeetSkeet have seen that
Loved it
second answer is The Fly
@helenS well not The Alamo with John Wayne!
I saw Davy Crockett 4 real in 1954 on the Walt Disney show🤣
helenS · 36-40, F
@Elevatorpitches Similarly, sequels are almost always worse than the original. Compare Friedkin's "The Exorcist" (1973) and those idiotic sequels which followed a couple of years later...
@helenS I never knew lol!
bucktard · 41-45, M
The matrix. The Truman Show. What happened to Monday.
room101 · 51-55, M
I'm a HUGE sci-fi fan. My list of favourites would probably clog this entire post. I'm even struggling to name a sci-fi movie that I didn't enjoy on some level🤔🤷‍♂️😂😂😂
helenS · 36-40, F
@room101 Come on, you didn't enjoy "Starship Troopers"!
room101 · 51-55, M
@helenS Ridiculous as it may sound, I actually did. The blatant, jingoistic, propaganda theme cracked me up. Even the super-lame special effects😂😂😂
Jokekilla · 26-30, M
Inception is so good. I want to watch Interstellar but when i saw it i fell asleep cause i thought it was boring, but that was like years ago.
I agree with most folks about these:
* Blade Runner
* 2001
* The Matrix
* Arrival

Just to be a little different I'm gonna add ET the Extraterrestrial.
Tukudo · 41-45, M
INCEPTION movie is very confusing at first..but it's dream of the dream of the dream.😄
SW-User
@Tukudo i wasn't confused at all because i have experienced it

@Zonuss a mastery in cinematography
jackson55 · M
The first alien movie.
jackson55 · M
@helenS Yes, but definitely SF. Did you see it?
helenS · 36-40, F
@jackson55 Yes I did, and I almost shat my pants while watching... I thought it's just another SF movie.
jackson55 · M
@helenS When I went to see it there was a young woman sitting beside me. In one of the gotcha scenes she just about jumped out of her seat. She spent some time covering her eyes.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Galaxy Quest. :)
Philasefer · M
I loved inception and the Star wars series
"The Lathe of Heaven" (1980), based on the Ursula K Leguin novel. Great movie. There’s been a 2002 remake, and it’s good, but the original is best.
