@Elevatorpitches Fully agree with you. The 1958 version is fantastic, and the Cronenberg 1986 version adds nothing new to the story.

@Elevatorpitches Similarly, sequels are almost always worse than the original. Compare Friedkin's "The Exorcist" (1973) and those idiotic sequels which followed a couple of years later...
