Definitely. Right now I am trying to get by on $100 a month. I am paying a lot of money over and above the minimum toward my charge cards.

@aradia11 she is 21 years old, a student who is not working or going to school this summer, could have found a job right after finals, doesn’t attempt to.
aradia11 · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti Is she Native also, I gather she utilizes a stipend if so.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@aradia11 she is not and no most natives don’t get a stipend and unless they qualify for a special scholarship they may get some money and then it’s not automatic. I don’t know where people get the idea that all American Indians get “Stipends”.She gets grant money for school and blows through it like it’s nothing.
PhoenixPhail · M
Groceries or 4 drops of gasoline.
PhoenixPhail · M
@cherokeepatti I don't have a job, either, so I don't drive much. I filled my tank about 6 months ago. It's going on empty now. I'll get just half a tank full. It should last a few months.
Iwillwait · M
@cherokeepatti I pay $90.00 for 14 gallons.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Iwillwait I paid $60 last night for 12.5555 gallons, the most I ever spent on a fill up.
TexChik · F
Food too ? $300 for a month for just me? Nope .
TexChik · F
@cherokeepatti nope , she wasn’t raised to be frugal and smart
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TexChik she is spending money like nobody had to work for it and there’s no end to it.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TexChik she’s a narcissist, knows it all and will try to advise others without being asked but can’t get her own 💩 together.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
Yes, even in the UK (£240) I could make that last.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti at least you didn't eat an egg you didn't feel like cooking , that's how i eat meat balls and gravy and ravioli , right outta the can , delicious
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@FurryFace If I was hungry enough I’d make scrambled eggs. I had scrambled eggs and canned peas for lunch just now and that’s good enough for me.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti @FurryFace worthy of a thread in it's own right, 'what do you eat when you don't feel like cooking?' When I was really sick last year I had several meals of boiled rice, peas and gravy.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
If i didnt have to drive. 1 month. Lol
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Depends on how much weed I buy.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Crazywaterspring weed is affordable in Washington state.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Changeisgonnacome sometimes that happens, some kind of glitch I guess
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@Changeisgonnacome It won't be legal in Texas until the feds act.
aradia11 · 61-69, F
Yes, but staying home reading books and cooking at home 72</>....a week
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@aradia11 or maybe putting in some job applications and trying to find work instead of spending money as fast as someone gives it to her.
aradia11 · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti Agree completely
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@aradia11 I’ve stayed home a hell of a lot more than I want to this past few years since I’ve retired….saving money is a part of it since I’m retired as is cooking homemade meals…I rarely eat out and I don’t go buying coffee at coffee shops either…make that at home. I check the sales and buy what I need on sale or what’s at a decent price especially groceries.
Aidan · 26-30, F
Yeah if I have no other expenses that’s manageable.
SW-User
I don't see that working out unless I skip on any kind of snacks, eating out, dessert and only do meal prep at home
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User would you do that if someone else had to pay for it?
SW-User
@cherokeepatti no way
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User self-respect is a precious asset to have
nedkelly · 61-69, M
No chance in hell
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
Probably forever. My expenses are less. But I don't drive or pay rent
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Changeisgonnacome her rent, utilities, cell phone, car & car expenses except for gas is paid for also insurance is paid for.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti wow. That'd be sweet.

Torsten · 36-40, M
easily could make it last a month if not more
Torsten · 36-40, M
@cherokeepatti she sounds like she is in for a big shock soon enough in that case
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Torsten The whole thing reminds me of the tale of the Worker Ant and the Grasshopper. The grasshopper wants everyone to feed it while the worker ant is storing up food. When winter comes the ant has food and the grasshopper is starving.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@cherokeepatti that is a good analogy for this
Iwillwait · M
Three weeks max.
I spend 70-90 on fuel every 10 days.
I spend 70-90 on fuel every 10 days.
Iwillwait · M
@cherokeepatti I should buy a different car.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Iwillwait what do you drive?
Iwillwait · M
@cherokeepatti a large sedan. I get 13-18 miles per gallon.
SW-User
A little tight, but if i really have to do it on that budget, i will find a way to become thinner than i already am 🤷♂️ Not healthy though
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User a person could buy some groceries and eat at home, make coffee at home, etc. couldn’t they. How much does it cost to eat sandwiches, have some eggs & toast for breakfast, fruit for snacks, maybe soup or something simple for lunch etc?
SW-User
@cherokeepatti I was working out the costs based on a direct conversion from US dollars to my local currency, and the cost of living here. It is doable, although a little hard and it is getting harder each day.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Groceries would eat that up
saragoodtimes · F
@MrBrownstone went to market this morning. $11.99 for 26 oz can of Maxwell House coffee
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@saragoodtimes better than buying coffee at shops for $5 a pop though isn’t it? One can would last a month for one person
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@cherokeepatti One month of groceries is about $300 for me
saragoodtimes · F
heck no. wouldn't even leave the house with just $300 spending money
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@saragoodtimes she doesn’t want to stay at home even for a day
SW-User
Not by any means!! That would be the price of a cardboard box!!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User not counting rent, utilities, car expenses except gas
MarineBob · 56-60, M
No. I like my lottery scratchers
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MarineBob if someone else was helping you out and gave you the money to live on would you blow money on lottery scratchers and then ask for more money?
MarineBob · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti of course not
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MarineBob Like I told someone, when I was that age & my ex not working or frittering money away I was too proud to even ask relatives for $ to buy a loaf of bread. It motivated me to have a garden, to buy on sale, to cook things at home, etc. Not everyone can garden but they can learn to be frugal and learn to start out making simple meals that don’t cost much.
Spumoni · 46-50, M
Yes, and last about a week into to the next month.
Starchild1983 · 41-45, F
That’s not pocket money, that’s grocery/household money…
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Starchild1983 the one I am referring to is. And doesn’t have any pets….
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
@Starchild1983 that's a night out with sub.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Applepiedom would you keep begging money off of a relative to do that?
Bibipat · F
There was a time i had to do that
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Bibipat I had much less than that to work with when my daughter was young and I was a single parent. Even considering inflation etc.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I could spend that money on Optislim shakes and milk and coffee. But I also have dogs. and even if I didn't have to worry about buying their food. After a week of optislims they food I give them would look really appetising.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Thevy29 no pets just one person
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@cherokeepatti Like I said, I'd have to buy Optislim shakes. $50 for a weeks worth of shakes. With some money for coffee, milk and apples.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
3 weeks , money fly's
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@FurryFace groceries are way more expensive in Canada and you don’t have Aldis there.
Fairydust · F
Yeah I’m a good saver.
Broadways · 26-30, F
Hard to say 😁
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
That would be food for one month for me alone. I don’t skimp when it comes to food
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@LunarOrbit would you scrimp if that’s all the money you had? Or maybe get a job to buy meals out?
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti I rarely buy meals out. And that goes for processed foods as well. And if I only had 300, I couldn’t do it without working to make ends meet. Well….i could but that would mean minimal vehicle use and not eating as well as I normally do. So if I had to is a bit different than wanting to
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Nope gotta have gasoline, that would only buy 2 gal. Per day
Right now
Right now
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Virgo79 the person doesn’t work and school is out, so why buy 2 gallons a day?
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti then theres food, i think a single person could do it with careful spending.
And not doing anything else
And not doing anything else
SW-User
I usually spend about $100 on snacks and food easily in a week. So maybe half a month?
MrAboo · 36-40, M
No I’d have a hard time doing that on $300
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Depends on your situation
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Zonuss her situation is that she feels entitled, doesn’t want to find a job, and likes to eat out in restaurants etc. Nothing better to do than spend someone else’s $
Azlotto · M
I would still have about half of it.
SW-User
I could survive on that but it wouldn't be pleasant.
