Ask me if and when I am through this terror and darkness.

4meAndyou · F
I had a "vision" With my eyes closed. I could "see" myself down at the bottom of a really deep and dark pit. Metaphorically speaking, the pit was the despair and isolation that I was feeling.

And then I "looked" up in the vision, and I "saw" a man peeking down at me from the top edge of the pit. In my mind...it was Jesus...checking in on me.

And that was ALL I needed. I needed ONE person to care about me. Once I knew that HE had cared, I was strong enough to go forward.

P.S. I don't KNOW that it was Jesus for sure, but I really, really wanted to believe that it was.
Iwillwait · M
Not sure I have completely. It took a lot of time, prayer and faith to be able to just move forward and start the healing. I still have many issues that affect me and can result in behaviours that are counterintuitive to what or how I want to be.
I discovered who I could count on and who I couldn’t. And I got surprises in both cases. Some folks I thought were friends bailed, others I’d seen as acquaintances really stepped up and became good friends. But I got closer to my parents than ever before, and that lasted.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard That is happening to me, learning who I can count on.
NinaCherry · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard emotional support is greatly understated. look how Elons mom is cheering him on
@NinaCherry Interesting example.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
I realized that i had to rely on myself to get me through it. At the end of the day, no matter how much you lean on people, how much you cling onto them to help you through it, they have their own lives. When everything dies down and there's the quiet moments, all that's left is you. And it made me stronger.
Infamous607 · 51-55, M
@AngelUnforgiven I keep hearing about the making you stronger bit.
Captainjackass · 31-35, M
By surviving through it. I usually have something dramatic and terrible happen that changes everything. But I recover from it and carry on. Honestly its messed me up a lot.
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
I didn't give up and kept my faith strong. I didn't have any expectations but I did what was right (though being right is subjective).
nedkelly · 61-69, M
They say time heals everything, I am not sure about that
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@nedkelly Me, either, my friend, we live with it, and some days it still breaks our hearts.
Iwillwait · M
@nedkelly I do not believe time does anything other than confine.
riseofthemachine · 41-45, M
There a thing about life and there's a sane which says about pain " You can't go over it , you can't go under it , you have to go through it '
Primnproper · 56-60, F
Absolute determination that life wasn’t going to beat me and faith that there had to be better around the corner.

exexec · 70-79, C
A friend from high school, a girl, gave me a dope slap and reminded me who I was. So I just stopped feeling sorry for myself and got it done. Everything was fine after that.
Infamous607 · 51-55, M
@exexec what is a dope slap

By finding one simple thing to do and achieving that. Then another one. eg Going for a walk. Reading something.

Start doing things and being active. Your brain and mood will follow.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
By telling myself things will get better.

You know how it is with the thrill-seeking personality...

What goes up, must come down.

Top of the world, one moment; down in the dumps, the next.

Once you become homeless in the middle of winter. All there is the will to fight to sink or swim.
