Thoughts on Elon Musk gesture?

It's bs from the media using a still photo from an active scene. How many times have any of us flailed our arms in exuberance and could be shown looking the same?

Nobody can accuse me of being biased either, I didn't vote at all.

Looked pretty unambiguous to me. If he'd been in Germany he'd have been arrested.

I think he messed up the whole thing. I think he was supposed to set it up first by saying his heart goes out to all, then give the nazi salute. But I'm sure he meant it as a nazi salute. But I wonder how he meant it, considering his audience.

He never struck me as a nazi. His whole reason for buying Twitter goes against their beliefs. I think he was saying the audience were all nazis. Either way, it was done in purely bad taste. It's not something that should be done by a man with such influence to a crowd of people who also have a ton of influence and followed by millions of people who are easily influenced.

It makes me feel hope. This means my dream is turning into reality.

The salute itself has a varied history.

In ancient times, it was the Roman salute.
(pictured below)


Then in 1891, it was the Bellamy salute, named after Francis Bellamy, the man who wrote "The Pledge of Alleigance."

If he was attempting to do a "hitler salute" then he messed it up - if you watch them do it their palms are held flat (perpendicular to their chest) before being raised whereas Elon had his palm flat against his heart. There is also a variation where the person clenches their palm into a fist on the chest before raising it with palm flat.

I don't know who that is, but from what I've seen from what others have posted of this gesture, it looks a tad absurd, to say the least.

Even if it wasn't a Nazi salute, his gesture is empowering far right groups. I wonder what the Jewish community think of this one now.
