separate it completely from elected officials and politics

FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
There is so much wrong with our justice system in the US (I'm not familiar with those outside, sorry):

Systemic racial and patriarchal prejudice

Money over laws - the rich can afford the best lawyers, so they get off with nothing while the poor get the full effects

Cronyism and bribery in judge positions to sway courts towards desired results

Sheriffs are elected and often are in it for pure personal profit at the expense of the citizens

The prison system that's for profit, creating reasons why people can't be released, even for minor infractions while they are paid per person in their systems.

The legal ability to use inmates as slave labor

The inability of inmates to better themselves through education and therapy.

The system is not based on rehabilitation but on punishment. Even if it was based on rehabilitation, there is potentials for horrible abuse of inmates, as seen from the past.

Over crowding due to the 4 above reasons, creating horrible living situations for inmates.

Gross overuse of solitary confinement which has been proven to cause insanity and mental health issues when done for even a day on an average person, let alone someone who is in the system due to systemic negative life situations that have created extensive generational trauma and mental health issues already existing.

I mean, that's just off the top of my head....

I'm no lawyer or nuthin but this "guilt by association" thing kind of bugs me. I've had a lot of crazy friends throughout my life that while I'm just standing there drinking a Dr Pepper or something they'll haul off and do something random crazy out of the blue... like why would any of this be my fault?
@FloorGenAdm I understand... The innocent suffer along with the wicked.

A return to community policing, where officers had defined beats and knew their neighborhoods. Humanize the interaction in both directions.

Equal justice for everyone I am so disgusted by how some people get slaps on the wrist when other people get treated like serial killers
Allelse · 36-40, M
That I can do anything I want.
My brain automatically added "DUN DUN" after reading this because I can't read the words 'criminal justice system' without thinking of law and order

AdmiralPrune · 41-45, M
@G7J2O Curious. So who should decide if you are guilty or not?
MrSmooTh · 31-35, M
Consistent punishments. The same crimes should always carry the same sentences no matter who the offender is or how much money they have.
GuidanceCounselor · 56-60, M
Enforce the laws
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
That would take a rewriting of the constitution itself with a lot more Rights for real individuals and no rights for so called "legal entities".
alongalone · M
3 judges no jury trials
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Stop politicians from interfering in the work of the judiciary.
Stop letting reoffenders out to reoffend..

You know.. the sane stuff
4meAndyou · F
Impeach Judge Teresa Molina-Gonzalez.

The punishment fits the crime.

Acid attacks
Muggings
Rape
empanadas · 31-35, M
Idk where to start honestly. I guess making more programs to have criminals reenter society more easily. So they arent attempted to go back into a life of crime.
YoMomma ·
Make it more about justice instead of bs
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Enforce the death penalty and limit the appeals to one year.
PatKirby · M
@MasterLee

But, but...will they show it live on pay per view?
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
