I don't pay rent

Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
I always find this to be a rather personal subject. I was always brought up to believe that discussing such things is rather uncouth.
But modern society seems to say sod that. I unfortunately still can't get my head around it.

I hope you got the information you needed from as many of the people that were happy to share that with you.
@Mellowgirl Thank you. I was also taught that it was bad manners to ask. 🤔
Wiseacre · F
Yes it is, we can decline to answer.@Mellowgirl

Dont get me started..

Too late. ..the last time i paid rent, it was $950 a month for a 3 bd room house in the hills with awesome view of SF Bay, SF, the bridges, etc.

Before that, it was $575 a month for a 1 br apartment in secure building with secure off street parking, in Adams Point, near the lake

We bought our home in 2000, a little bigger and farther up the hill but less view. Mortgage is $3200 a month for everything, including tax and government homeowners insurance since we all got canceled when the insurance companies quit providing insurance in California.

Here's the capper. ..my property tax is equivalent to $950 a month, which is crazy when you consider that it pays for all the cops and bureaucrats who keep taking away more and more of our freedom in order to make their jobs easier. Most of the people who work for the city, don't live here. They commute in from wherever and treat us all like we're their enemies. It sucks paying that much money every month and the best thing i can expect to get in return is nothing. Gone are the days when nothing used to cost nothing (I almost said nothing was free, but that makes sense two different ways). So basically, even when my home is paid off in 4½ more years, I'll still be paying $950 a month like i had been doing for years before I bought this place

Oh.. and that apartment i used to rent now costs more than my current mortgage, counting everything..

🤔I wonder how they're going to take our homes away from us? ..fire? Eminent Domaine?

@Jayciedubb Have you ever considered voting out everyone in office and starting over?
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Musicman not really. I quit believing in fairytales before I was old enough to vote.

Seriously, the amount of dedication it would take to get any traction would leave me depleted.

Besides, history shows that they will be replaced with people just like them
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Being i owe nothing on my home i can't wait until election time to weed out the ones that raised taxes almost to rent prices😡
Just one reason rent is so high.
I don't know how many times I've heard people who rent say they don't own so they don't care about property taxes, not realizing they're costing themselves.

5000 nok pr month for a small house on a farm with no close neighbors. It's a steal, really. And landlord hasn't increased the rent even once in the 7 years I've lived here.
HumanEarth · F
Don't pay rent, last farm payment was 800 bucks

Farm is paid off, taxes are even paid in full.

So I put 800 a month in cash and put in jar every month.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@HumanEarth Where do you keep the jar? Uh, just asking for a friend.
HumanEarth · F
Buried in this area

@HumanEarth Thank you for that additional lesson in the importance of not being seen!!

Nothing. And the mortgage payment is less than the rental for a studio apartment around here; add in the property taxes and it is still less than a decent apartment. A product of buying my first house on a no down payment/low--at the time- 7 1/4% Cal-Vet loan when we didn't know how we were going to make the mortgage payments and still eat, the skyrocketing housing market manipulated by developers and financial institutions, and the cockamamy Prop. 13 property tax laws in California that still base my property tax on that original purchase's value in 1973 at a grossly deflated 2% per year max increase in valuation.
YoMomma ·
Zero we own property now but our last mortgage was only 340$ a month cause our house loan was only 50k 😅 (for a three bedroom brick house on one acer in the country)
bowman81 · M
No rent, I own the house outright. Then there are taxes, maintenance and upkeep. I don't even want to try to add all that up.
pikminboy · 31-35, M
i pay 700 canadian dollars for a one room, and it includes meals

but its a special ressource place that i live....

i only do 30 hours of work per week and its not enough if i would rent a normal appartment

a 3 and half ( living room, kitchen and one bed room ) is usually 1200 $
Iwillwait · M
Where we are it's $1800-$2200 1 bed 1 bath apartment
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
Last place was 1000 month in Valemount, older mobile home with huge yard. Before that, 1900 in Smithers, brand new apartment.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I pay the mortgage it's more than I think it should be, but that's life
shinyplasticlove · 51-55, M
$1950 a month for a big 4 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment in ND.
helenS · 36-40, F
Rien du tout. Nothing. Zilch. Nada.
I live in my own house. It's old, it doesn't have all those modern convenience gadgets, it's more like your grand-parents' house used to be, but hey, it's mine 🥰
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@helenS My mother, who would be over 100 now, her place had more than twice what I have now. And she wasn't even middle class. A factory worker. Yeah she owned her new house and I don't own my old place. I had made more than five times her hourly wage when she retired. At that time.

Today's housing in the same area is literally 30 times the costs. Probably more. A single persons minimum wage income could buy a new house back then. On one 40 hour per week job.

Mom never had a credit card either in her whole life. Women rarely had credit cards in the 60 and 70s. Much less the poor.

You can't buy a house today without good credit, much less no credit. Oh unless you have $960,000 cash. That's the average new house here BTW.

$0. We own and have no mortgage.
friendlykinkster · 56-60, M
This question is kinda obsolete on an internation site. Comparatively, the rent prices vary greatly even within a single city, the state or province and different countries use different currencies.
@friendlykinkster Interesting how everyone else is sharing numbers without context isn't it?
About 20K SEK (around $2000) in central Stockholm. It's usually much more.
No rent or mortgage. The house is paid off! Just property taxes.
TexChik · F
We charge rent .
Achelois · F
I don’t pay anything.
Pfuzylogic · M

Musicman · 61-69, M
@Pfuzylogic Way to go! Woo Hoo 🎉🎉🎉
alongalone · M
Me pay rent? Never! Now excuse me while I go back to reading 'I came, I saw, I squatted"
3400 (cad) 2475 (usd) for a 2 bed, 1 bath bungalo..... freaking madness!
Iwillwait · M
@beermeplease Sounds about right for the SW USA too
slorollin · 41-45, M
Nothing. House and land are paid off
Musicman · 61-69, M
@slorollin Well done! 🙂🙂🙂
slorollin · 41-45, M
@Musicman Thank you 😊
$1550 a month mortgage
Musicman · 61-69, M
We are truly blessed. We own our home and it's fully paid for.
lissah · 36-40, F
$336 for a small one bed 3/4 bath fixed income disability apartment with no washer and dryer or dishwasher that's barely 400 square feet, yet the owners of the building get an additional $450 from subsidized section 8.
