In Tokyo the mandate has been lifted so you don't need to wear them outdoors anymore. But most people still do. Not me though I take the damn thing off every chance I get. I like fresh air.
In Eastern cultures if a person feels unwell..., they don a mask all on their own. It's kind of a respect thing towards their fellow man for them. They've been doing that for decades. They do it without any governmental prodding. No need for a pandemic.
They get sick or develop a cough and they throw a mask on....
And..., even if these people you see are just scared...., why does it, why would it, bother anyone at all ? They're probably still smiling at you as they pass not knowing they're even being judged.
@HikingMan If you are not feeling well it is simple courtesy, even if it is just a cold nobody wants your cold and it is impolite for you to increase their chance of getting what ever you have.
@Subsumedpat To be honest, before Covid I never understood the Eastern styled philosophy on it all. Covid open my eyes and I looked into it a little. As I said in one of my earlier replies, "Taoism" is at the root of that specific thought in the East.
I have a ton of masks and I'd like to think that if I felt unwell, I would be wearing one these days outside my home.
I can find no fault in anyone that chooses to wear a mask for almost any reason. I still fear bandits on horseback wearing kerchiefs though.... 😋
@HikingMan i don't live in Eastern culture And just because they wear them doesn't make it right or wrong People react to things that don't make sence Wear a mask if you choose
Lets see now.. three weeks ago friends caught it.. Not long before that our Daughter got it.. I live in Toronto and I wear my RESPIRATOR indoors in stores and in busses and subways etc. and I will continue to do so despite rules or restrictions being lifted because I don't care about rules or restrictions I care about NOT getting infected. I have been fully vaccinated and boosted twice.. When will I stop? When people stop being hospitalized and when people stop dying from Covid... and frankly I could care less about what other people say or do.. so long as people are dying from this disease I will continue to protect myself and I apologize to absolutely no one for it..
"fraudulent" according to which accredited authority? @gol979 You know I am getting sick and tired of people deciding on what is fact and what is fiction...you are entitled to your own opinions you are NOT entitled to your own facts... That is why moronic dictators like Trump need to be in prison.
@pdqsailor1 lol well you arent going to like this but it was the inventor of the pcr test, kary mullis, who specifically said the pcr test is not for diagnosis. Oh, and orange man was your boy. You should be on your knees for trumpkins as he was the front man for Operation Warp Speed. Dont forget to get your 4th maga injection
@gol979 I am not going to enter into a debate on the use or the efficacy of the PCR test because I do not know the answers and frankly it does not matter much to me... You see I have avoided getting sick and while from time to time I have taken a rapid test for some level of confirmation I have not had a PCR test nor have I or my Wife or my elderly Mother suffered any symptoms of the disease... I do not think it subject to debate as to how many people have died or how many have entered ICU units or got sick or what the cumulative economic costs have been for this viral adventure ride the world has been taken on... The numbers are substantial. As to the orange haired orang-utan well he was never my guy, I am a Canadian, our public idiots were nine months late obtaining stocks of vaccine prolonging our costs and isolation as Canada has no vaccine production facilities - big surprise there...... All the fat lying idiot did was write cheques with public money to speed the facilitation of the vaccine... and he was among the first recipients of it after the dumb ass got infected. He really belongs in prison not in public.
@Mamapolo2016 which is exactly why I continue to wear my mask - I do NOT need rules or restrictions to justify why or how or where I protect myself - I only need FACTS and the facts say... this is not over.
Wearing a mask without rules or restrictions is not subject to a popular vote.
What others say or think about me wearing a full respirator, frankly I could care less about what others say or think. The ONLY thing I am concerned with is not being infected.. and so far... immunizations, face shields and my respirators (I am on the fourth one thanks) and avoiding gatherings has worked. So what do I concern myself with? FACTS.. How many people in ICU's... How many people have died from Covid this week in my area.. When the death rate and the ICU admission rates fall to zero and stay there for a month or so .. then I will reconsider my actions.. You see I never needed rules or regulations to know what to do and how to do it.. and I don't need the absence of them for permission to take risks.. or to avoid risks. CRITICAL thinking is the ability to make up my OWN mind based on factual criteria....
@Wiseacre also let be bring up a point.. how do astronauts deal with air when they do a long space walk or even air rebreather system.. if your talking about CO2 conestrations that will not be a issue with a simple yellow or blue mask like your wearing. Who are u going to trust a person who wears them all the time and i have been for the last 23 years or your best friend who is not in the medical field and does not even know when he should really go to the DR. Also china and Asian county's have been masking forever. I feel like ur turning a simple question into a fight.
Covid is coming back numbers are increasing again sadly in the UK.
I'll have to put my mask on again, I've already caught Covid once and don't wish to go through it again if I can help it, I've ended up with a tear in my inner eye as a result which is a black spot apparently it'll take ten years to heal.
@BalladOfADeadSoulja I never walk under ladders it's bad luck, I haven't worn a mask lately but might start wearing one again if there is a steep rise in people catching Covid.
Don't hold it against my but I do ride a Monkey bike
Yes and no. I don’t generally now except for the grocery store. It’s really crowded and not that big (as grocery stores go) and I’m usually in there a while. Something about it just makes me want to wear my N95. And it’s where I see the most mask-wearing now, which is to say about less than half the people.
Yes, some people still wear them here. Many people never did, even at the height of hospitalizations and deaths from the virus. Many people have ignored the requests by businesses to wear one all along, and glared defiantly at any who even glanced their way.
I still wear one, when going inside public places.
Iowa legislature passed a law outlawing mask mandates almost a year and a half ago. Individual businesses may post their own mask requirements, but as a whole, mask mandates are not a thing here anymore, esp in schools.
@easterniowegin I had a brain fart yesterday, went from a medical facility to a grocery store and paused a second, thought I'd need a mask for the store too. haha it was like I forgot where I am from.
Yeah they do, and I do as well if I’m in crowded or enclosed areas. I’m a student, and every other week I receive emails from my university saying someone tested positive, so I rely on masks as a preventative measure.
Some do but not anything like as many when you posed the question (I live in Southern England).
I do wear mine sometimes, but have become a bit lax about it. I'd due a booster vaccination in a weeks or so's time, (along with ones for shingles and pneumonia, and one to come for influenza) knowing vaccinations don't necessarily stop you being ill or at least hazardous to other people - but they greatly reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill.
I'm planning to attend an exhibition in a few week's time, and it will be interesting to see what happens, for such shows often become very crowded with people from far and wide. I think I will wear a mask for that.
The fear factor about flu (winter here in Oz) and Mun Kee Pox is causing more people to start wearing them again, but I stopped last year except when I'm on a train (still required on public transport) or in a taxi. I hate them.
So many things are like that. I planted vegetable 'seeds' and nothing came up - nothing! Don't believe stories about growing food. They're fake. So-called seeds do NOT work.
A neighbour of my Mothers went to the USA from Toronto to visit with family .. they got home and discovered... they both had Covid...
I am vaccinated (twice) and boosted (twice) and I wear my mask regularly at any indoor venue with people in it.. It has worked so far and I intend on not changing this until Covid spread has stopped... I do not wear just a mask - I wear a KN 95 respirator and honestly it seems to piss off a lot of people.. frankly - I don't give a _ _ _ _ if it pisses off ANYONE... so long as I do not get sick or worse get anyone else sick...
@pdqsailor1 I keep waiting for someone to pick on me for still wearing a mask. I'm gonna warn them not to get too close and tell them I have it! I'll bet they back off pretty darn fast!
@pdqsailor1 I had a old man ask me why I was wearing a make mask.. My reply was why are in a scooter, all he could do was scoot away... lol it not like he could get up and do anything about it..
anyone who lives in such a constant state of fear, might as well get a mask permanently affixed to their face and go live the rest of their life in a hermetically sealed bunker... 🤷♂️
@ArishMell I recovered a long while ago after getting it two years ago, yet still have what I said. I thought you'd know what I meant. As for the rest, you missed your own point that I was responding to.
@suzette I read your post as simply saying you have (present tense) Long Covid.
My original point was an appeal to avoid turning a disease into some sort of "political" weapon. Governments around the world had to deal with a fast-spreading, new (to humans) disease in their own ways so obviously that is political to a point; but whatever their methods and means, whatever their mistakes, most were doing the best they could in a situation beyond their experience.
I can see Wildbill's remark about "constant fear"; and yes, there does come a point when we each have to decide the risks for ourselves. Meanwhile, in the UK at least, cases of Covid-19 are rising again.
County here just restored mandate for most public indoor venues because of an uptick in diagnoses and hospitalizations with the latest variants. But most people were still wearing theirs voluntarily anyway out of an abundance of caution.
@1234cardiff there are a lot still wearing masks in Melbourne. What’s sickening is seeing parents without masks but making their own children wear them. That’s child abuse in my opinion.
