I don't understand the mask shaming ?

In Eastern cultures if a person feels unwell..., they don a mask all on their own.
It's kind of a respect thing towards their fellow man for them.
They've been doing that for decades.
They do it without any governmental prodding.
No need for a pandemic.

They get sick or develop a cough and they throw a mask on....

And..., even if these people you see are just scared...., why does it, why would it, bother anyone at all ?
They're probably still smiling at you as they pass not knowing they're even being judged.

@HikingMan I saw an interview on some japanese street and the girls wore it mostly because they did not want to show their face
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@revenant I find that perfectly okay as well.

@HikingMan they were pretty and nothing to be ashamed about but they found themselves ugly and hid behind masks.................!

@revenant I'm still good with it. Who really knows how they see themselves ?
Maybe they've been teased and/or bullied about their appearance ?
I didn't see the interview so I wouldn't know anything about it.
I doubt I'd judge them for a personal choice that didn't involve hurting others or themselves though....,

Where I'm from there aren't many left wearing masks, but some still do. Mostly elderly and pregnant women that I've noticed.

I don't blame any of them at all and no sideways thoughts go through my head as I pass them.

@HikingMan Asian Boss or Ask a japanese I think it was on. Hmmm I still think it was a shame and brought on by society.

@revenant There really isn't any comparison between Western Ideals and Culture to that of Eastern Ideals and Culture.

Only Contrasts !
revenant · F
@HikingMan admittedly but lots of asian countries do not have a mask culture
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@revenant I beg to differ. Taoism is widespread over there and that's where the masking culture got it's roots. Even in places where Taoism isn't a main theme, people have seen the value and intrinsic value of masks long before Covid was even a thing.

@HikingMan lived there and never saw that fashion in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Thailand..etc

@revenant Then you would know much better than I.
I just tend to read a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff....
Hopefully you view my comments here as part of a normal conversation and not anything confrontational. For truly..., I try to be mostly unoffensive to pretty much everyone.

I've enjoyed this conversation, and I thank you for it.

Be well
Live happy
Die trying,
Rob

P.S. - I gave up on masks as soon as it was allowed in almost all places except CVS Pharmacy and 2 other places that had a high rate of elderly people there.

@HikingMan If you are not feeling well it is simple courtesy, even if it is just a cold nobody wants your cold and it is impolite for you to increase their chance of getting what ever you have.

@Subsumedpat To be honest, before Covid I never understood the Eastern styled philosophy on it all. Covid open my eyes and I looked into it a little.
As I said in one of my earlier replies, "Taoism" is at the root of that specific thought in the East.

I have a ton of masks and I'd like to think that if I felt unwell, I would be wearing one these days outside my home.

I can find no fault in anyone that chooses to wear a mask for almost any reason.
I still fear bandits on horseback wearing kerchiefs though....

@HikingMan
i don't live in Eastern culture
And just because they wear them doesn't make it right or wrong
People react to things that don't make sence
Wear a mask if you choose
