@JimboSaturn In fairness, that was one of those cultural icons that came and went faster than a f4rt in the wind. Plus it was fairly old even 10 years ago.
I remember seeing non-stop previews about it but never watched the movie. All my 14 year old mind could think was, "Oh boy, another movie about old people falling in love 🙄"
This was in the early 2000’s before the vinyl resurgence back when vinyl wasn’t cool. I was at a music store that was basically a CD reseller that also happened to have a couple of crates of records on the floor, which I was looking through. A young mother and her son walked into the store, and the kid walks straight to a record crate. He pulls a vinyl record out of its sleeve and says “Look mommy…..it’s a big CD.” The mother then begins to explain to her child, “a long time ago….way before you were born…”
@LadyGrace I think a record collection can be a deeply personal thing unless a person is strictly doing it as an investment. I’ve still got children’s records I received on my 4th birthday when I also got my first player. Now I play them for nieces and nephews when they visit.
This was illustrated in a movie, but I heard it firsthand; I was about 30 when I was with some friends and a guy said, "yes, everyone remembers where they were when they heard Kennedy had been shot," and this 19 year old said, "Wait, Ted Kennedy was shot ?" 🤨
@DrWatson Funny thing, when I was visiting my father and family: a friend of my niece’s was commenting, "I was 5 when we were told about 9/11; my mother asked, "what will happen to this country?"
Pop said, "I was 9 when we heard on the radio about Pearl Harbor…my mother asked that same question."
When I was in grad school, I heard 2 young girls talking. One of them said that she didn't understand all the fuss about Mick Jagger..."so he has one hit song, so what?" I looked at them and said "He was making lots of hit songs before you were even born." They looked at me with a quizzical look....apparently unaware of the fact that he was in The Rolling Stones.
@bijouxbroussard I took typing in High School. It turned out to be one of the most useful classes I ever had. I was never that good at it but a solid 55 words per minute was a heck of a lot better than I could do with a pen or pencil and it was legible to boot.
I'm impressed. As I recall, on my final typing test in that class, my best rate was something like 42 wpm.
This reminds me of a conversation I had with a high school student back in the late 90's. She mentioned a keyboarding class that everyone had to take. I assumed she was talking about musical instruments!
Last year around Halloween, I was doing my regular thrift store runs. Some mom maybe 30 years old and her two young daughters were there in the book section looking for scary books. One of them says, "What is Twilight?" I about fell over. I am glad no Millenials other than their mom were present, they would have d*ed.
It's just funny cause maybe 12 to 15 years ago, it was HUGE but now, the kids have no clue what it is.
Are you kidding me?? Everytime my 30 something son tries to explain some feature on the phone and goes about it as if this is the first time I've seen a phone. I know what streaming is dude.
We get to an age when we realise that things we knew and experienced are now considered historical events and facts and that not everyone is aware of them
