This was in the early 2000’s before the vinyl resurgence back when vinyl wasn’t cool. I was at a music store that was basically a CD reseller that also happened to have a couple of crates of records on the floor, which I was looking through. A young mother and her son walked into the store, and the kid walks straight to a record crate. He pulls a vinyl record out of its sleeve and says “Look mommy…..it’s a big CD.” The mother then begins to explain to her child, “a long time ago….way before you were born…”

@JSul3 That’s about the age I was when I got my first record player. I’ve never stopped collecting, too. The first LP I got that wasn’t a kids album was the 1976 King Kong soundtrack with the poster. My dad had quite the collection, so as a kid, I listened to a lot of Stones, Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Jethro Tull. I always just grabbed his records, so I didn’t really start buying my own with my money until I was a little older.

@SomeMichGuy A lot of my collection was purchased at 25-cents per album when they were trying to give them away. It floors me to see some of those records going for $20+ each.
@BamPow An old friend of mine had a humongous collection. He just loved his music and Records. These were LPS and 45s hahaha and I used to love so much watching him dance cuz he danced so well and we would just laugh and have the best time to gather. We were always singing to the oldies everywhere we went and even on top of the dam hahaha we didn't care who hurt us and we drive out to the lake and he would open the car doors and let the music fill out and we'd have a good old time. We love doing that in the evening at a little cold where it was so beautiful and the lights danced off the water. We would sing all the oldies and had so much fun. We were good haha I miss those days very much.

@SomeMichGuy I’ve got over 2,000 records, and according to Discogs, my collection is worth between $40k and $80k. I assure you I paid a small fraction of that for it.

@BamPow Smart
@BamPow I'm not surprised you have that many. So did my friend. Oh I know you paid a fraction of that. So did he and I'm sure like your collection they are pristine. He still has them and boy are they a joy to hear. There's some songs in there from the '50s that I'd never even heard before.

@LadyGrace New-to-you music is awesome. My favorite thing to do now besides filling in any holes in the collection is to take a complete blind flyer on records I’ve never heard of. I’ve found some really great ones by just rolling the dice. A big part of the addiction of collecting them is finding music I never knew existed.

@KznLvr Actually, thank you. I had no idea of the first two speeds in this list
from a wikipedia article--thanks for teaching me something new!
What sort of recordings do/did you have at that speed?
