@OlderSometimesWiser you're welcome
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@OlderSometimesWiser where do you get these ?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@OlderSometimesWiser Ya, as if a fork would not suffice.
SophSmiles · 22-25, F
We have a decorative chopping board that you’re not allowed to chop on! 🙄
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
@SophSmiles hahahaha show off only
SophSmiles · 22-25, F
@Donotfolowme exactly, I tried to use it once…never again…got a proper lecture about it not being for use
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
@SophSmiles uugh them parents
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
This thing. I’ve had it for 10 years and never used it. I don’t even remember what it does anymore
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Jenny1234 This thing personifies all that I hate about kitchen gadgets lol
Convivial · 26-30, F
That's why ever kitchen has THAT drawer lol
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@Lugwho I didn't know such a gadget existed until I saw it on here tonight. Lol :)
Lugwho · 56-60, M
@Crazychick I've never seen one before 🤣

An egg separater or a jar opener.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Spoiledbrat Provided it does work properly I would not dismiss the jar opener, if by that you mean a tool to unscrew lids too tight to release by hand only.
Some jar lids are so tight, when new, that I even keep a similar, but more powerful, car oil-filter wrench for them.
Egg separator? My Mum used to use one occasionally, when cooking something needing separated eggs... but a cup and knife as just as effective.

@Spoiledbrat please donate the jar opener to me, i never remember to buy one
ArishMell · 70-79, M
None: I do not buy utensils I do not need.
I have a few things I have rarely or never bothered to use, but they are not "useless". Most are simply duplicates of ones I do use.
Perhaps the only one of really limited practicality, given to me as a present, is a "travel kettle" used by plugging it into the car's 12V ("cigarette lighter") socket. I have never used it.
I do have milk in coffee, usually, but can't be bothered with all that froth nonsense. I want a mug of beverage, not bubbles!
.....
(Frothy drinks..... A legal oddity here. The "head" on a pint of ale cask-dispensed in a pub is different. Although still only froth, and Northern English drinkers swear blind it is necessary despite it arguably flattening the beer slightly, the amount of liquid below it still has to be a full half-pint or pint by law. Yet cafes are legally allowed to sell coffee short, disguised by opaque cups, thick layers of milk froth and pseudo-Italiano name.)

A stainless steel chef's knife. Doesn't keep an edge worth shit. Since got a proper carbon steel knife set.

I have an air fryer. And a pressure cooker. Both are useless. Never liked either. I have a TFal food ptocessor and juicer. Never used them either. I have mostly decluttered my kichen. I bet many people have lots of useless kitchen clutter.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Lugwho LOL! Yes - I must admit I'd not considered whether the milk would survive overnight in a warm bedroom. I expect a lot of users were caught out by that.
I suppose if you need go downstairs to fetch the milk you may as well get up and make the tea downstairs.... then drink it there too!
The device itself should not taint the drink though. I suspect well-meaning combined with cost-care, in its selection.....

Teflon pans. They delaminate so I've dumped them. Stainless is ok for acidic stuff but not for sauteing.
@Tastyfrzz Pay the money for anodized
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 Ha! I took the pan, brushed, and sanded it out, finished sanded with some ultra fine paper I had. Washed it with soap, then citric acid. Neutralized it, Rinsed. Then did a two hour boiling water bath with salt, soda and a little sodium hydroxide to anodize it. Added a bit of blue dye to verify that it was even. Drained and rinsed it.
Dried it over the flame.
Seasoned it with lard three times. Baking it on at 450°F.
Normal metal finishers use sulfuric acid. For hardcoat a dc current is applied.
I don't need too deep of a finish. Hopefully this holds up. I just do oatmeal in it.

I love my milk frother. Use it for coffee and cocoa.
@Crazychick Alcoholic egg nog as a creamer in hot cocoa
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@NativePortlander1970 This is getting weird now.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 lovely

A jar opener. We never use it. It was a gift.
Lugwho · 56-60, M
@Spoiledbrat Don't you love these gifts

Whatever it is it's at the back of the junk drawer.
Crazychick · 36-40, F
I haven't got any useless gadgets in my kitchen.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I'm proud to say I have few useless kitchen gadgets. I'm a believer in using the same knife for most things. My problem is I have too much of the same things which is causing clutter.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
My parents used to have an electric can opener that actually took longer than a manual one.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@JimboSaturn sounds useful to me
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Royrogers I have a good manual one, it's very easy to use and faster than a clunky electric one, I'm big on simplicity.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
George Foreman Grill. Finally dumped it at goodwill.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Zoodler
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Starcrossed Oh? I am intrigued! I assume that is a trade-name but what it is supposed to do that you never knew you needed do?
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@ArishMell for making zucchini squash into noodles. I HAD to have it and I don't think we've ever used it.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Me 8-) Useless actual gadgets get chucked. I'm not any sort of qualified foodie.
Plasticbag · 100+, M
Those frothers are useless though.

Ice pick
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Shybutwilling2bfriends I always knew an "ice pick" as a mountaineering tool, so I suppose it won't have many culinary uses... :-)
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@Shybutwilling2bfriends essential when doing cocktails
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
Slow cooker I won in a competition never used it, takes overnight to cook 😂
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Donotfolowme :-) Err, yes, but haven't you missed the point?
Most people used them for cooking the evening meal, not breakfast. It cooks during the day while the owner is at work or elsewhere for the day, so the food is ready for the return home.
I have one but have never needed used it. If something takes half an hour to cook, I let it cook while busy with something else in that time.
It's actually a very old idea, a modern version of the 'Hay-box cooker'.
