Lots of things. But I have some great friends who are tactfully able to tell me when I need to check myself bc I'm being a jerk, making a poor decision they don't agree with, they're not an echo chamber and they're capable of just listening and allowing me to do the same. They don't just take. They also give. They've always been there even when one of us just needs another just to "be" in our presence and say nothing while we cry. They've been everything. I'm lucky to have them and I know it.

as the saying goes: "they loved you before you won the lottery"

My " real " friends...have been those who have shown up for me ... no matter how much time has passed we pick up where we leave off ...they feel like family ...those people are rare but appreciated

True friends stay and do not disappear on you when things get to the worst point, they can, they are there for you through the best and worst of times. No conditional shit just right beside you when you are right or wrong and helping you to correct your wrongs! One that you tell you are going to war, and they say not without me you are not, and are there when you come home from war without a question asked, well maybe one "where are the shovels so I can help you to bury the dead"!

Real friends are there at your lowest possible moments, when you have nothing to offer them apart from you. I'm blessed. I've had friends literally pick me up from the floor and be there when life has handed me such a shitty deal that I didn't want to be here any more.

You can talk about controversial topics with them. They don't necessarily have to agree with you, but if you just had a screaming match with them about why you disagree about the direction the president is taking with literally everything, if they still consider you a friend after that, keep them.

Only time can reveal who your true friends are, anyone can seem cool in the moment.

Meh? Mostly they are acquaintances and I don't make lists or categories of expectations on people too much. Or expect them to cater to my whims. Some acquaintances can be just as supportive or even semi strangers at times.
