My Brother lives in Birmingham and he has a shotgun licence. Once a week he goes to a farmer's field and spends an hour or two "clearing out" rabbits which the farmer considers to be a pest, vermin. They all get eaten at his dinner table. Wild rabbit has a great flavour. It's neither white meat nor red, it's game and it tastes of the land.

Rabbits are very popular in Egypt. They are made with a recipe called Moloukhia.
Ive never tried them though as my Egyptian mother wasn't a fan of them. I hear they taste like chicken or similar to that.

@Teileach In Scotland (and England?) take-out fish'n chips etc were traditionally wrapped in newspaper and could be eaten walking down the street. I seem to recall the swankier places used brown paper 😆 - Probably healthier than Styrofoam cartons and the like. Even here in Canada paper wrapping was still normal untill maybe 30 years ago.

@BittersweetPotato They taste different than chicken, but the cooked meat looks and feels like it a bit (consistency wise, at least)

was never overly fond of rabbit and/or grew tired of it at a young age (both grandmothers made rabbit stew all the time)
I still think pheasant is the best white meat there is (tender & nutritious, tastes sorta like a mix between poultry and venison)

@wildbill83 pheasant is good eating if it is cooked right and the person actually knows what they are doing !
I enjoy cooking and quite honestly when I do or discuss it, the least of my concerns is who gets offended. I don’t cook to offend. I cook to eat and if I can, serve others.
Glad to hear your husband liked it. I had some in the military. It was ok.

Too dry for me. Ugh. My dad would hunt them. My mom occasionally cooked them. We raised rabbits to sell mostly as pets. None of us ate rabbit ever.
seaglass · F
@PoetryNEmotion If your dad hunted them and your mom cooked them, then who ate them? The people who didn't buy them for pets? Dinner and/or a pet stand, maybe?
PoetryNEmotion · F
@seaglass My parents ate them. You can jump off a cliff. We were kids. Enjoy the splash.

Farmed rabbit is really good, but I once ate a hare that a buddy hunted and it was nasty!

Fried cottontail is always good. But in Texas rabbits carry over 100 parasites. If you cut yourself while cleaning one you can get seriously ill.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
I love it. Our old landlord would shoot them on his farm and skin them for us.
Slow cooker is the best way to cook rabbit.

I go shooting and sometimes get a rabbit. When i was a meat eater i liked it but the smell when gutting them is so bad i had to do it outside so as not to stink the house out LOL

Once I saw a live rabbit as a child, I could never eat them. I had a couple as pets.
