Bunny in the oven?

I don't mean to alarm any vegetarians or vegans, but does anyone enjoy old fashioned rabbit stew any more? I made it a couple of months ago trying to wean my husband off too much red meat. I was hoping he would like it and didn't expect too much but, hand down, it was the most scrumptious thing he had eaten. Mind you, he comes from London and used to eat pig's trotters his mother used to cook, jellied eels, and pie and mash, but never had rabbit. It's a good flavour and I want to try cooking it again soon, especially for a visit from his brother and his wife.

Rabbits are very popular in Egypt. They are made with a recipe called Moloukhia.

Ive never tried them though as my Egyptian mother wasn't a fan of them. I hear they taste like chicken or similar to that.

@BittersweetPotato Yes, they do. Little 'gamey' in a way but very tasty.

@Teileach

Black pudding - yes! Especially battered & deep fried; with chips, wrapped in newspaper.

Haggis - yes with neeps! But proper haggis, not the dreadful pink paste they sell here.

Rabbit - not so much. 'Gamey' yes. Consigned to wartime memories with corned beef etc.

@Really Do they wrap chips in newspaper in some places? I'd hate all the print on mine!

@Teileach In Scotland (and England?) take-out fish'n chips etc were traditionally wrapped in newspaper and could be eaten walking down the street. I seem to recall the swankier places used brown paper 😆 - Probably healthier than Styrofoam cartons and the like. Even here in Canada paper wrapping was still normal untill maybe 30 years ago.

@Teileach fish n chips in newspapers was the best way to eat them back in the day, they had a layer of clean paper inside newspaper

@BittersweetPotato They taste different than chicken, but the cooked meat looks and feels like it a bit (consistency wise, at least)
