Do u eat fish 🐠

I have a question.
How many of you here eat fish. 🐠
What is your favorite kind. I had some herring the other day. It definitely hit the spot. So what's your favorite.
Is it salmon.
Is it tuna.
Is it sardines 😛
How about catfish.
I gotta go with whiting fish.
Fried all day baby.
What's your favorite fish.
Best answer wins. ☺ 🐟

Back when I was a child fish was so plentiful, and cheap, that we at fish two or three times a week. If you wanted you could find guys selling "a fry" outside most pubs. And in one if my first jobs in Freight Forwarding as we shipped fish to various countries getting some free fish was a regular occurrence. The result is that I am a big fan of fish, but am also always shocked at the price of fish these days, and don't eat it as much as I should.
As to my favourite fish, that's difficult. Love herring, salmon, tuna, skate, turbot, but overall it has to be haddock. When It came to the "freebies" from the fish suppliers it was a standing joke that ic one of our sales guys wasn't really liked he'd get a pack of cod. If he was appreciated it was haddock. To this day I will avoid cod which is still seen as kind of second class fish in most of Scotland, or at least in the North East.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@22Michelle In the US we don't view food as a measuring stick of class. We just enjoy good food. If we lived like that Ramen noodles would be out of business. ☺ 🍜
22Michelle · 61-69, T
@Zonuss By second class I meant that it wasn't seen as tasty or popular as Haddock.
And I've been in the USA many times and have relatives and friends there so I know that certain foods are seen as very much denoting social class, or perhaps financial status.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@22Michelle @22Michelle Its changed now. Nobody here has money anymore. Trust me. I'm seeing it now. You got millionaires shopping at Dollar Tree here. 😂
RubySoo · 56-60, F
As a kid, i only ate cod fish fingers and wouldnt try any other fish.
During a holiday in my 20s there was a 'fish bar' at a hotel we stayed at so i decided to try lots of different ones....after all...if i didnt like it, there was loads of other alternatives!! Anyway....i liked most.
I dont cook it often coz hubs doesnt like it, but when we go out i often have fish. I like sea bass, salmon, haddock and talapia mmmmmm.
I also love a good tuna mayo sandwich!!
Poppies · 61-69, F
Red snapper, broiled with olive oil, lemon and garlic 🤪

That's my recent favorite. But salmon, baked or grilled, maybe with rosemary, maybe teriyaki, is always great. As are shrimp, crab, mussels, scallops. A tuna salad sandwich is fine once in a while.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Poppies Snapper with a dash of salt and pepper.
Often. My favorite is swordfish when it's properly cooked. Smoked salmon on a bagel is delicious. Grilled rainbow trout is mighty fine too. I don't know if we're counting shellfish, but raw littleneck claims with a touch of lemon is spectacular!
Adogslife · 61-69, M
First, probably blackened swordfish, preferably with a bit of lemon and Worcestershire.

If cooked correctly, Nantucket Bay scallops wrapped in bacon are a close second.

The honorable mentions:
A great shrimp cocktail app

Fish and chips (cod/halibut) in the summer - definitely with an ice cold beer, though mine is zero alcohol.

Crab cakes
Calamari
Clam chowder

Who doesn’t like the occasional tuna sandwich?
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Adogslife The swordfish.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Favorite when I can not only find it, yet affordable enough is red snapper.

Large bones and no fishy taste.

I do occasionally eat other fish like:

Swordfish, tilapia, tuna, salmon, what is called whitefish yet is sometimes really shark, whatever it is it's usually not cod. Oh shrimp and other shellfish. Rarely can afford lobster or mahi mahi.

Not a fan of calms, mussels, scallops, anchovies or caviar.

Octopus is weird.

BTW catfish is full of bones. 😖
meggie · F
I only eat cod or canned tuna in brine. I hate strong smelling fish or any seafood with legs. I did have snapper a few times in Australia and the Caribbean and that was lovely.
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@meggie I love any fresh caught sea food. Absolutely the best.
meggie · F
@WillaKissing i was forced to take cod liver oil as a kid by my Gran who brought me up and as a result can only eat fish that isn't too strong. My bf loves all fish and crustaceans
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@meggie Yeah that cod liver oil thing would ruin fish for sure.
tobynshorty · 51-55, F
Fresh Salmon, ex hubby used to go up North and catch Salmon. We would share with friends. Also like tuna, shrimp, Crab.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
all fish, Salmon is a favorite though. fried calamari, scungilli, clams and oysters on a 1/2 shell with cold beer and caviar with well chilled vodka
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@saragoodtimes I had squid meat a few months ago. And it was not that good. Big mistake. 😆
salmon ,trout ,cod, shrimps ,calamari ,almost every other variety, but I detest when there’s a very strong smell ..
else its good to go .
Fried ,poached ,baked ,curried ,anything.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Caleidoscope What I love about salmon is how flavorful it is. How abstract it is. How delightful it feels when it's in your mouth. Oh you know. You know. ☺ 🐠
I like fried fish but very seldom have it that way, instead having it smoked, grilled, baked or Cajun Blackened.

Freshwater - catfish, crappie, walleye, whitefish, whiting, and trout

Saltwater - cod, grouper, hog fish, red fish, cobia, haddock, halibut, mahi mahi, tuna, red snapper, swordfish and salmon
Thrust · 56-60, M
@BrandNewMan

Wasn't expecting a scolding 🤷🏻
@Thrust Meant as encouragement .. not a scolding. The more fish you enjoy the more you are likely to eat .. a healthy step. We aren't 35 anymore. ;-)
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@BrandNewMan I agree. I was introduced to herring meat about 10 years ago. And I have been eating that kind of fish ever since. It is so good.☺
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
Fresh water wise, there is no better fish then a freshly caught trout.

Saltwater fish and crabs are just outstanding freshly caught.

Salmon is a great dish too. Salmon starts out fresh water then go to the ocean and back to fresh water.
Fried fish is ok now and then but not as healthful as other ways of preparing. There is an abundance of variety in seafood so one can enjoy it often without being confined to one kind..
FoolishLuna · 56-60, F
Luv it all … prefer it raw! Or grilled! I also love, cockles mussels, and raw oysters. Bring it on baby fish is the best.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@FoolishLuna 🦪🦪🦪
DrWatson · 70-79, M

Yellow perch, Haddock, whitefish, burbot, walleye, pike, tuna.

Most fish really except Salmon and lake trout. Oily, gamey, nasty things that they are.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@MethDozer Salmon is the bomb. It has its own distinctive flavor. To each his own. ☺
MethDozer · M
@Zonuss It taste like other fish that is starting to spoil. Or like a dirty beach.
