A chinese man I know told me that it depends on where the Chinese came from as to what type of Chinese food you get. He said the Chinese that went to Australia and set up restaurants may be from a different part of China to those who set up restaurants in the UK for instance. I think this could be true as I've eaten it in other countries and it can be quite varied.

Yes, some of it
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I love it.
But the boom in "shopping mall Chinese restaurants" and all-you-can-eat buffets has produced a lot of mediocre versions of this cuisine.

@DrWatson It started with Americanized Chinese food , but now it's really gone one more step into mediocrity. I like going to China town for Chinese.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Love it, though I'm sure whatever we have is actually Americanized, not traditional China-version.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@ChipmunkErnie I know an American who, years ago, spent several years in China with a friend, teaching English.
When they flew back home, they landed in San Francisco. They went straight to Chinatown, to see how the food would taste compared to what they had been eating in China.
They said the food in San Francisco was actually better. And the reason is that restaurants in the US use higher quality ingredients than what the typical Chinese family is able to obtain.

Yes, very much. My daughter-in-law is from Chengdu and we have the most wonderful spicy Szechuan food as a result. I have grown some of the special peppers and other vegetables for her so she can make it fresh.

Here in Los Angeles we're lucky to have a whole valley full of amazing authentic Chinese restaurants. All different styles. They are the best quality vs price ratio out there!
meggie · F
Oh yeah. Sweet and sour pork, beef in black bean sauce, crispy chilli beef, noodles and bean sprouts and lemon chicken are the best.

I'd like it better if the price reflected how long one feels as though one has eaten...
