Is it bad for your body to workout everyday?

bookerdana · M Best Comment
Arnold is what(?) 77..just don't over do it

AI 🤣

Whether it's bad for your body to work out every day depends on several factors, including the intensity, duration, and type of exercise, as well as your individual fitness level, recovery abilities, and overall health. Here are some considerations:

1. **Intensity and Duration:** High-intensity workouts or long-duration sessions every day can put a significant strain on your muscles, joints, and cardiovascular system. Over time, this can lead to overtraining, injuries, or burnout.

2. **Recovery:** Your body needs time to recover and repair after exercise. Without adequate rest between workouts, your muscles may not have enough time to recover fully, increasing the risk of overuse injuries and diminishing performance over time.

3. **Variety:** Engaging in the same type of exercise every day can lead to overuse injuries and imbalances in your muscles. Incorporating variety into your routine, including different types of exercises and rest days, can help prevent overuse injuries and keep your workouts sustainable.

4. **Listen to Your Body:** Pay attention to how your body feels during and after exercise. If you experience persistent fatigue, soreness, or decreased performance, it may be a sign that you need to dial back the intensity or take a rest day.

5. **Individual Differences:** Everyone's body is different, so what works for one person may not work for another. Factors such as age, fitness level, and underlying health conditions can influence how often you should work out.

In general, it's recommended to include at least one or two rest days per week in your workout routine to allow for adequate recovery. Additionally, varying the intensity and type of exercise you do each day can help prevent overuse injuries and promote overall fitness and well-being. If you're unsure about how often you should work out or if you have any concerns about your exercise routine, consider consulting a fitness professional or healthcare provider for personalized advice.
@Lostpoet In college I took lacrosse as a phys ed course. I needed to take four phys ed courses. I was pathetic. A total embarrassment. The instructor said to me, "You didn't play sports when you were a kid, did you?" 🤣 I'm a good swimmer though. That's my sport. I like solo stuff generally. I'm not into group activities.

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays I hope you are a good swimmer being amphibian and all. 🐸
@Lostpoet Do you like team sports or individual sports -- or does it matter at all to you?

Your body needs good food and rest in-between too

Yes, your body needs recovery. It's all fun and games until you tear your tendon or muscle and then you're sitting out for months or longer
Lostpoet · M
@deadgerbil That's what I want to hear because I really don't want to go, but i've missed so many workouts in the last six months and I want to get back into the fitness level that I was at before.
GunFinger · F
No, as long as you don't overwork yourself.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
It depends. If you over work with the same workout routine, then you will strain your muscles.

If you only workout with you arms today and workout with your legs tomorrow, it's the way to go.

Abs should be third on Monday. Tuesday workout your arms again.

No. Do a seven day split routine. 5x5. Lots of examples online. Pound the protein to mend muscle. Avoid sugar and carbs to reduce inflammation

This is how it’s done these days
It's all a balancing game. Time for rest. Recovery. Food and mental wellbeing

@Teggy I think i've fallen into that pit of I should have been in better shape if it wasn't for all the things that kept me away from the gym and so i'm trying to make up for those times.
@Lostpoet Life happens and there gonna be stretches where you just don't want to go or have the time. U less I misunderstood you, ya seem like you're beating yourself up over the days of weeks you haven't been working but honestly please don't.

Good physical shape is a marathon, definitely not a sprint.

I knew a fella who had what I called small man syndrome. He went to the gym every opportunity he got and was in truth an absolute monster.
He always thought he was chubby and weak when he was probably the strongest and fittest fella there.

Ended up burning himself out and just quit all together.

Granted that's an extreme case but what in saying is you're probably in better shape then you believe yourself to be in. Embrace the change you've accomplished so far and enjoy if you don't have the time or drive right now

If you want to lose weight that is fine. But to build muscle you should work out 30 minutes 3 times a week.
Lostpoet · M
@Melissa501 When they weighed me last week I was only 153 lbs, so I've been eating two breakfasts and two lunches. I was 170 six months ago and It was still lean muscle. I lose weight when I don't go to the gym.
Girlbehindthecurtain · 31-35, F
It's better for your muscles to rest,so it can heal and grow.that's why people change up their workouts
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
Idk, but I'm not taking any chances. Can never remember wether or not I worked out the day before tho, so... 🤷‍♂️
meggie · F
No. Only if you are doing extreme weights everyday or working out for long periods.
No, but you need to manage volume and intensity appropriately
Mordechai · 31-35, M
Yeah like 5 days max and that's for people who've done it for a while
bookerdana · M
Thanks for BA,hope you're doing better
Ducky · 31-35, F
The short answer is no.
pentacorn · F
potentially you could work out every day, but if it's to the point of failure/exhaustion, you will destroy yourself. so if you wanna workout to gain muscle, you must workout to failure, so you must take some days off

Imo it depends on the body. Some people can handle it but imo they are in the minority.
Also depends on the exercise, maybe daily calisthenics would work.
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
I think if you’re eating well, drinking tons of water, and alternating areas you are working… it could be ok everyday
Depends how you work out.

If you work to fatigue - then definitely yes.

Working muscles for growth requires microtearing of the muscle fibres to allow thr body to respond and repair.

Which requires rest periods/days
