About the cartoon as a work of genius - I don't think I'm exaggerating: the subtleties of the facial reactions and the way the first "owner" and the future "owner" ran down the street in a sneaky way with their rare find toward and then over the rise in the road captured the inevitability of human greed perfectly.
Well, there was Mighty Mouse and Deputy Dawg and later, Johnny Quest. And oh, there was the Quick Draw McGraw show, with Snuffles, the dog who would float up into the air on his back after they threw him a treat! And let us not forget Top Cat!
Well, for cartoons it was the movies -- yeah, every single-screen theater showed one, sometimes two cartoons with the major feature film to appease the children in the audience -- since TV was in its infancy. Any of the Looney Tunes, but Scrooge McDuck was probably my favorite. Along with Yosemite Sam and the Roadrunner.

Inspector Gadget! Saturday mornings were about watching TV so quietly it was basically just moving pictures because nobody is going to wake Dad. You won't know we're sitting here eating breakfast cereal straight from the pack either 🙂
