We’re taking our pets. Not leaving them…

I would contact local shelters and explore finding maybe fostering until I could get them back. Even if I couldn’t manage getting them back soon enough or even at all, I would be comforted knowing they were okay.
Can you donate them to a shelter or rescue center? Some have volunteers who home-sit the pets until new owners are found. This frees up kennel space at the shelter.
Knew a lady who volunteered regularly.
Most of the time, the choice is made for you - in that you are unable to find a place that meets your needs and is pet friendly.

I've been told to leave my pets behind and report him to RSPCA after the fact.

The irony is that there's more support available to my abuser after I leave him than is available to me in my attempts to escape and get to a place where I feel safe enough to settle down afterwards. So far... I haven't been offered that by the system that's supposed to be there to protect me.

I saw a comercial for a dog food manufacturer and it that they help people who are in an abusive relationship to find somewhere safe with their pet.
morrgin · F
@minoltaguy I will try to find it

Do you have a no kill shelter in your area? I might surrender them there if I absolutely had to. There might also be local groups on social media that you can reach out to.

At the end of the day, your life matters the most.

It depends on where i end up. If im going to a shelter i would look for one thats pet friendly. It all depends on what my escape plan was. I would make sure thati have a plan in place.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
I'd never leave my dog behind
TexChik · F
If I were in that situation, I would have already gotten the pet to someone I could trust...and then bash my abuser's brains in as he slept! Really in that situation, its all about your own survival. I would have called the police and involved them.
morrgin · F
@TexChik I thought that was the answer too, but they said it sounded to them like I was the problem, asked me if there was anywhere I could go, told us to stay in separate rooms, and said they didn't see any marks or bruises even though they were right there
Natenateson · 56-60, M
They actually have shelters for both owners and their pets... call your local ASPCA or animal control or local Police Victim advocates
Tracos · 51-55, M
I'm sure I could manage and take them with me
chrisCA · M
They would come with me.
tobynshorty · 51-55, F
They go with me.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
They go with me
A very hard question

Leave, but will the other person may intentionally hurt the pets to get back at you
fun4us2b · M
Bring them anyway...and find a way 🤷
Ferric67 · M
protect them
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Find someone to adopt them
Lostpoet · M
Are they violent towards your pets?
morrgin · F
@Lostpoet i doubt my cats would get fed. Ever since we got another dog he favors the younger one and gets pissed off at the older one for basic dog things. He 's kicked at my chickens for doing normal chicken behavior. He's one of those types that take everything personally as if the other person is intentionally doing something to annoy him. Hes the same way wiith the pets. So besides the attempt to kick one of the chickens I havent seen violence towards any of the pets but i still think what he does and how he acts towards them is cruel.
Lostpoet · M
@morrgin Do you have neighbors or family members that you can leave them with for a short time and maybe you can wait until you get your own place again.
morrgin · F
@Lostpoet Possibly. I dont know that many people in my town. I have very few relatives in the state. I only have a couple of friends because ive been so isolated. I found a thing today that said to call your vet and they might have options so i'll try that too
pdockal · 56-60, M
Take them no matter what
Goodluckwiththat · 61-69, M
They come with, regardless!!
morrgin · F
@Goodluckwiththat thats how I feel, but how to actually do that is difficult to figure out.
empanadas · 31-35, M
Ask friends to see if they can take care of it.
morrgin · F
@empanadas i have a friend that might take my two adult cats, but thats about it. Ive been isolated so thats about it for my friend list.
