Leave your pets behind?

If you had to leave your home because of violence and you had no money, what would you do about your pets?

Can you donate them to a shelter or rescue center? Some have volunteers who home-sit the pets until new owners are found. This frees up kennel space at the shelter.
Knew a lady who volunteered regularly.
