Most of the time, the choice is made for you - in that you are unable to find a place that meets your needs and is pet friendly.
I've been told to leave my pets behind and report him to RSPCA after the fact.
The irony is that there's more support available to my abuser after I leave him than is available to me in my attempts to escape and get to a place where I feel safe enough to settle down afterwards. So far... I haven't been offered that by the system that's supposed to be there to protect me.
