This reminds me of a creepy episode. Years ago but creepy enough to stick in my mind. We were at one of the distant suburbs for an early morning meeting, just off the interstate. There was an upscale truck stop at the interstate and after the meeting we stopped at the truck stop for gas, coffee and breakfast. It was pretty crowded.

Midway through breakfast an older gentleman approached the table, pulled up a chair and sat down. Thinking it was probably someone that had also been at the meeting we just responded with friendly “have a seat!” type gestures.

It wasn’t.

He was well dressed, suit and tie, 60s. He laid a business type card on the table and complemented our looks, and told us how we had caught his attention when we entered, a couple he thought would make good friends. He asked our names as I saw the desperation in his eyes. We both picked up on the desperation and froze for a second, then politely stood up and left, leaving the gentleman alone at our table.

Was he a vacuum cleaner salesman, a lonely old man or a serial killer?

The look in his eyes suggested the latter. Convincing enough to see if he was following us.
