So you take your Son about 5/6 shopping for clothes for School and he finds......

A nice pink unicorn shirt that he wants similar to this how do you deal with it
Top | New | Old
Penny · 46-50, F
tell him it's a girl's shirt
WolfGirlwh0r3 · 36-40, T
buy him the shirt, assuming its in his size, pink is just a color, and unicorns are Awesome
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@WolfGirlwh0r3 especially Charlie the unicorn

I took my son to get new shoes last night, he’s 8 and he picked out “girls” shoes. He has always loved the color pink and I dont Think colors or much of anything really belongs to a gender.

They like what they like. No need to shame them.

Nothing wrong with that either. Kids are wonderful they like what they like and don’t really care what others think, then adults step in and ruin it. That’s my opinion.@silkydrawers

@Repete so cute
SW-User
Let him have the t-shirt.
justanothername · 51-55, M
Get the t shirt.
I might say something like some people think pink and unicorns are just for girls, what do you think? Just to help prepare him that if he chooses that he might get comments at school.
SW-User
You don't take a 5yr old shopping for clothes, you buy them and bring them home.
SW-User
@SW-User exactly lol
NorthernBear · 51-55, M
Kids can be cruel. I would warn him about what's likely to happen at school and get him the shirt if he still wanted it.
Repete · 70-79, M
Kids can be cruel yes but where do they get that front?maybe not all but a big part of the way kids think is how the parents react to things. Most kids want to make their parents proud of them by acting grownup like their parents. This is just my opinion.@NorthernBear

I would buy us both one and we could sport the cool guy look together.
Tell him that is a great "pajama shirt" when you buy it for him.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
If he likes it, what's the problem?
meJess · F
Not seeing the problem.
Torsten · 36-40, M
i would get it for him. Its just a shirt
SW-User
I only wore what parents bought me at that age.

I don't think I'll even bring the kid to the store.

May be after like 12 he gets to choose his clothes. And his part time job.
He's just a kid. So it doesn't matters. You need to worry when he is teenager and still wants to wear this kind of tshirt.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@littlepuppywantanewlife Why would you need to worry then?
@ninalanyon why worry at all? Its her concern.
SW-User
You are the parent. That's not appropriate for a boy child
SW-User
@SW-User I’m not in ya business. I shared mine. And I do feel bad for boys that are raised to believe they can’t like what they like because their parent has issues with their own identity 🖤

@JustGoneNow Kids at school can be unbelievably cruel and especially when you stand out as being slightly different. At age five, most kids are not aware of how others will respond to what they wear. What might be 'just a unicorn top' could also completely unravel friendships and their security at school, potentially causing some lasting trauma and issues with their education if they start getting bullied. I'd be trying to go for unisex clothes until they were old enough to really know how they felt and knew what the consequences might be.

@SW-User It might be worth a conversation at that point discussing that some people think pink and unicorns are for girls and what do they think? I can’t save kids from all abuse and bullying they may or may not get from other kids in general. I can teach them to be strong and stand by their convictions however. If what you are doing, you are doing with the child’s safety in mind, I can’t exactly fault you, even if I don’t quite agree with it. Be safe and be well.
hlpflwthat · M
If you're taking him shopping let him shop. He's 6.
Gumba1000 · M
Tell him no.
SW-User
That’s cool
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
I wouldn't buy that for a boy
Crazy how those unicorns are battling. Pretty epic shirt.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
At that age the other kids would rip him to pieces for wearing a pink shirt.
SW-User
I know mist would deter it. But what damage will that cause long term? I know, I answered the question with another question.
Jessmari · 46-50
I'd let him have it. He absolutely has to name the unicorns. Non negotiable.
pdockal · 56-60, M
All depends why he wants it
Are you uncomfortable if he wears it ?
Snuffy1957 · 61-69, M
Nothing wrong with that
SW-User
@pdockal I like how you got an apology and I didn’t boo hoo 😆
pdockal · 56-60, M
@SW-User i didn't even see it & could care less but feel for ya

justanothername · 51-55, M
My son often wears our daughters clothes. He’s 6.
SW-User
Buy him a pink pajama nightie with unicorns on it that he can only wear in the house instead.. If he's gay it's just the way he's wired don't try to fix what's not broken but look out for him other kids can be mean..
Japrost · 41-45, M
pride49 · 31-35, M
Get him the shirt. Unless you wanna be like John Goodman on Rosanne. Hate that guy
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
Buy it and let him wear it.
If you live in a Red State this shirt could lead to him getting expelled from school or the school inspecting his genitalia.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
suit yourself
LilPrincess · 46-50, F
I would let him wear it because he would rock that shit.
MoonaNorth86 · 36-40, F
He’s a kid it doesn’t mean he’s gay unicorn and pink is a child thing let him have it
