Kids can be cruel. I would warn him about what's likely to happen at school and get him the shirt if he still wanted it.

Kids can be cruel yes but where do they get that front?maybe not all but a big part of the way kids think is how the parents react to things. Most kids want to make their parents proud of them by acting grownup like their parents. This is just my opinion.@NorthernBear
