Depends on the type. Generally the darker the leaves the more nutrition. I stay away from iceberg and lean more towards romaine and other darker ones.

If there is a steak beside it...lots.

Each plant species will have its own proportions of plant proteins, minerals and vitamins, but otherwise, yes - lettuce is a green vegetable, after all.

It varies by type of lettuce. I buy Romaine lettuce, it has quite a bit of vitamin C in it. That’s the lettuce that is recommended for parrots and other birds. Spinach and other types of greens can be added to salads too.

Iceberg lettuce actually contains nutrients. Specifically, a significant amount of vitamins A and K. Plus, it offers calcium, potassium, vitamin C, and folate. Because it contains so much water, it also helps to hydrate you.
Baby spinach leaves, chicory, watercress, kale, romaine, Butter lettuce, arugula, swiss chard, and other greens are also really good in salads, and contain even MORE nutrients.

@4meAndyou Romaine has the highest level of Vitamin C. Recommended type of lettuce for parrots and other birds. Also good for guinea pigs since they can’t make their own Vitamin C.

@cherokeepatti I used to feed my guinea pigs cubes of alfalfa.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou that would be the best.

Maybe Cabbage?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
yes and no, every vegetable has its own unique mixture, most are more water than anything else. It depends what is in the salad, all lettuce or what?
SalttyDawg · 70-79, M
A lot depends on what kind of lettuce. Iceberg 👎
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SalttyDawg Iceberg has an opitate-like substance in it. Won’t help if you are constipated and may actually contribute to it. Also is will help you relax and sleep if you have it for dinner. But nutritionally Romaine is the clear winner in lettuce varieties.

It has a lot of water in it.

Iceberg has none. 🤷♂️

I'm assuming it's mostly cellulose and 🌊. I often eat a whole head of romaine in one night and it fills me up pretty well and I figure it's good for you. I add homemade Caeser dressing with anchovy paste in it.
It depends on the lettuce used, iceberg, hardly none at all, romaine, some, red and green leaf lettuces, packed full of it.
