Do you think you can get food poisoning...

From sourdough bread?
Two online sources say the bacteria is killed at baking stage and is not harmful..one source says its possible to get sick from it. I ate one bite that seemed very sour tasting, almost b ad in a way, but figured this is what sourdough bread is like..quite tangy. It was just that one bite..the rest of the piece was just slightly sour taste. I have to be somewhere tomorrow...I HOPE I dont get ill😞
Think will make one sick, or no?

No you're absolutely fine. Sourdough is made with wild yeast from the air, and to collect that there's a starter that ferments.

Fermenting is normal and is used to make yogurt, chocolate, sauerkraut, soya sauce, worcerstershire sauce, etc... all sorts of food.

But the trick is that as you ferment, it creates lactic acid. This is what makes sourdough sour.

The amount of sour varies by recipe, and it sounds like you found a recipe that is quite sour rather than slightly tangy. If you don't like it you don't have to eat it, but unless someone rubbed a raw chicken on it you are almost certainly fine and it will not make you sick.

@CountScrofula Ty friend.. Ive had food poisoning before and its AWFUL..so when I swallowed that really sour bite i thought, oh I hope its not bad....it tasted as if how mold would taste on bread, very sour. But ill take your word. Thanks 🤗

@Coralmist Quite welcome! I've made my own sourdough and if you overdo it the bread is extremely sour. That's a recipe issue, not a food safety one. You'll be okay :)

@CountScrofula ✌️🌺🙂Thanks

The only way it would possibly bother you is if you ate the raw dough. Sour dough bread is tangy, and who ever made it might not have put enough sugar in it. Butter will make it taste better. You are going to be fine.
You can get food poisoning from any food that goes bad, doesn’t matter if the baking/cooking whatever process killed any microorganisms that were in before

@DrawntoaDistance The bread looks and smells fine, just bought it recently..but it was one bite that was super sour...ugh. fingers crossed it will be ok. I just read the probiotics in yogurt can aid in minimizing and even preventing food poisoning.. just had a yogurt!
Idk I'm not good at making bread. But I'd think mold would be the bigger problem with bread.

Sourdough has a tangy taste. It's fine.

@DearAmbellina2113 This one bite tasted almost like mold, it was so tangy..but hopefully its just that it h ad extra fermentation, which bacteria is killed typically in baking process..ty!

If you think it isn't right get rid of it. Trust intuition.

I believe it is yeast, not bacteria.

You are fine

@Spokeskitties75 I hope so friend🥺 I was about to spit it out it nearly tasted bad, but after chewing, just tangy. I have a misaligned jaw too, so the last thing i want is vomiting.

Uncooked Yeast can be high in bacteria, so if the bread is not mixed correctly.

Pockets of yeast can be un cooked

@SW-User It was cooked bread, but just that one bite was very sour tasting.. but i figuted its ok.. now I wonder

@Coralmist Difference in taste is a sign of not being mixed correctly

I do not think so.

@Muthafukajones Thanks..lol. it did taste pretty sour though, but I guess it makes sense the bacteria would be killed during baking. 🍀
