Do you think you can get food poisoning...

From sourdough bread?
Two online sources say the bacteria is killed at baking stage and is not harmful..one source says its possible to get sick from it. I ate one bite that seemed very sour tasting, almost b ad in a way, but figured this is what sourdough bread is like..quite tangy. It was just that one bite..the rest of the piece was just slightly sour taste. I have to be somewhere tomorrow...I HOPE I dont get ill😞
Think will make one sick, or no?

No you're absolutely fine. Sourdough is made with wild yeast from the air, and to collect that there's a starter that ferments.

Fermenting is normal and is used to make yogurt, chocolate, sauerkraut, soya sauce, worcerstershire sauce, etc... all sorts of food.

But the trick is that as you ferment, it creates lactic acid. This is what makes sourdough sour.

The amount of sour varies by recipe, and it sounds like you found a recipe that is quite sour rather than slightly tangy. If you don't like it you don't have to eat it, but unless someone rubbed a raw chicken on it you are almost certainly fine and it will not make you sick.

@CountScrofula Ty friend.. Ive had food poisoning before and its AWFUL..so when I swallowed that really sour bite i thought, oh I hope its not bad....it tasted as if how mold would taste on bread, very sour. But ill take your word. Thanks 🤗

@Coralmist Quite welcome! I've made my own sourdough and if you overdo it the bread is extremely sour. That's a recipe issue, not a food safety one. You'll be okay :)
