Florida just passed a law that child molesters could be sentenced to death. Do you agree or disagree and why?

They consider owning a book about a penguin with two dads to be child molestation, while they turn a blind eye to rape and explicitly made child marriage legal without the right to file for divorce, so no. This isn't about protecting children. This was the last step needed to officially start genocide on the LGBTQ+ community.
@NerdyPotato Conservatives seem to be amused by cruelty in general. 🙁

@NerdyPotato 🤡 hysterical ninny
@SilkenMist I have never understood why Gatsby and Moby Dick were considered such great literature. It just blows my mind.
@NerdyPotato @bijouxbroussard I mean, of course they find genocide funny, when they're the ones committing it.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Considering they prefaced this by ruling that trans people and drag queens are a threat to children (by existing, not by actually doing anything)... yeah this isn't a good thing.

Also, by their laws two 14 year olds having sex is illegal. So... death penalty?
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@CountScrofula Completely agree with you
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
@CountScrofula you bring up good points. So maybe I don’t 100% agree but if someone is convicted then I say yes, sorry it’s personal for me.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Jeephikelove Someone who has harmed a child probably has no right to life, and I don't say that lightly.

The issue is less whether or not the punishment fits the crime, it's if we can give the punishment fairly. This is a political stunt, it's not about protecting children.
itsok · 31-35, F
That law is for abuse on children 0 to 11. It can cause lifelong damage and forever alter someone who had no way to protect themself. It is an extreme punishment for an extreme crime. I think a lot of survivors of childhood molestation would agree it’s not too much.
I disagree with the death penalty due to police ineptitude and errors. When they realise they made a mistake it’s a bit difficult to fix
Gloomy · F
I'm against the death penalty in general so I have to disagree.
Child molesters act on impulse that's why this law won't prevent child abuse from happening.
There should be better ideas than just passing laws that satisfy the publics need for revenge.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Gloomy that is my belief and i also believe God will get them if the state doesn't. My family was taken they shoukd be too
Gloomy · F
@akindheart your belief and what you believe happens after death is fine but don't expect society to organise based on your religion
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Gloomy i dont believe in leniency for child predators or murderers. Period
SophieSmiles · 18-21, F
Disagree, I don’t believe in the death penalty. The dead person doesn’t suffer, it’s their family who do
The specific targets of this are not the issue. The judicial system, from cops to the electric chair, is wrong often enough to prohibit the death penalty for anyone.

Emotionally, I agree with the concept. Child molesting is life-stealing, whether the victim dies or not. But the enforcement of laws is so political, it is unsafe for all.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Mamapolo2016 Exactly it's not if the law is ethical, it's if it is practical and the climate it exists in. Matt Gaetz isn't getting the death penalty from this.
It’s just one more opportunity to kill someone who might actually be innocent. Been there, done that. You lock someone up and you’re wrong, because they couldn’t afford a competent defense, you can release and kind of compensate them for those stolen years. But you can’t give someone back his or her life, once that’s been taken.

I hate child molesters. Lock them up. But like I said, we’ve already executed people for various crimes—and been wrong. Our system is just not efficient or equitable enough for the death penalty.
@bijouxbroussard The truth.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I don't believe in the death penalty for anyone. There are other means of handling criminals of all types. Not just one specific type either.

Ankle bracelet that sounds a alarm when getting near certain areas would work just fine.

Those that hate so much that they wish for the death of others, have something wrong with themselves as well.
Slade · 56-60, M
@DeWayfarer as opposed to you who loves those acts
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Slade you're talking to the wrong person on this! I was raped myself as a young teen! I got over it unlike some. Yet never would I wish what happened to me on anyone! Killing others once it's over is just plain wrong!

Defense at the moment is a totally different story. I would rather have had my relatives or friends have come to my defense than do nothing!

Why I have defended many other woman from the same thing of what happened to me back then. Some I barely knew.
Slade · 56-60, M
@DeWayfarer sorry to hear that ☹️
TexChik · F
Not only do I agree, I might volunteer to help with the execution. In Texas we can shoot someone if they are molesting a child!

As an abused and molested child myself, the hell it puts you through is unimaginable . The damage (PTSD) lasts a lifetime. So destroying those who molest children is a suitable punishment .
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
I'm against the death penalty, but I firmly believe they should be imprisoned for life with no chance of parole.
@BarbossasHusband only actual child molesters though, right? Not the people whom Florida calls child molesters.
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
@NerdyPotato only actual ones, yes.
That will thin the youth minister and gop state representative heard for certain.
DCarey · 46-50, M
Agree 1000%. When you molest a child, you have taken the life the child had and turned it into an indescribable nightmare. As a result, you have forfeited your right to live among us.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
Two things I’m not very sure about at all…that (1) the death penalty is a deterrent, and (2) jail time rehabs effectively. So…
I agree because that ruins the kid for life, it's almost like they did kill that person.
I feel if there are those who are child molesters, who cause trauma to children, it depends on what they are found guilty of.
Should child molestation result in a child’s death, yes, put it on the table for punishment options.
akindheart · 61-69, F
leahlikes · 18-21, F
i agree in cases with black n white evidence, to easy for the so called law to fit undesirables up and the law itself is full of pedo's
SilkenMist · 46-50, F
@leahlikes true about the law but of course they don't want to hear that.
I actually don't. I've had enough interactions with these people to know that they can be rehabilitated, with very few exceptions.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Yes, keeping them around ain't worth the risk of rehab or the resources of incarceration
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I was molested as a child and I don’t believe in the death penalty. How can they suffer if they are dead.

Politicians in Florida have been calling Drag Queens pedophiles when there’s no proof of that. Are actual child predators going to be executed because when members of the Republican Party start to be executed then what’s going to happen?
Slade · 56-60, M
Yes! Start with Pics!
@Slade what
Slade · 56-60, M
@SW-User Pics...of a better tomorrow!
blackdiamonds · 36-40, F
Fine by me. People who harm children deserve it
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
I 100% agree!
@Jeephikelove Before you do, keep in mind the point a few other people have raised that Florida has decided that all LGBTQ+ people are child molesters.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
@LordShadowfire ya I saw that response and agree, so changed it from 100%.
It seems extreme but I don't know..
Considering most pedos seem to be Republican this could have some interesting results, if the GQP stands by its law and order rhetoric for itself as well (which it has not been doing since 2016)
