Bristol. The capital city of south-west England, about 100 miles west of London. Established by royal charter in 1155. Became a major port of embarkation for the New World. Modern economy focused on electronics, aerospace, finance, media.
My town Athlone is located in the Midlands of Ireland, , the river shannon runs through it and divides the town in two , it also divides the provinces of connaught and leinster
We have a castle that sits on the banks of the river that was firsr built in the early 1200s for king john of England altho it has been restored and modified many tines since
Atlone is also home to Irelands oldest pub Seans bar and it also claims to be the oldest in the world.
@Celt50 What an incrediably beautiful castle and cool bar. Really interesting. I wouldn't mind going to that pub, seeing the castle and exploring Ireland. I hope I can visit there some day. I've always been fascinated by it.😊
Gentle hills roll into Appalachian razorback, ablaze with the fires of Autumn.
Silver rivers spill into mill valley streams.
At sunset, whitewashed steeples are kissed with pink. Their bells ring out, calling parishioners to evening mass.
Main street's quiet; the market, vacant. Lights are out at the general store. No more visitors, the veranda's silent; round the barbershop's little door.
Past the courthouse, around the cenotaph, a giant tractor turns. The ungainly wagon piled high with silage, fresh cut for 50 head of herd. Lost in the lengthening shadows of steeples and parapets, the lazy wig-wag of his tail lights fade up and over the reservoir bridge.
In whose reflection Mt. Washington looms. The tranquil headwaters tinged in crimson, where the sun comes to rest upon a New England town.
Above the parkway toward the interstate, the forest closes in to meet me. Up its hills and in its corners, glow cozy coach house inns.
As we climb into the sky, sawtooth peaks and ridgelines lay one onto the other. Behind the bluing haze of twilight, and the gentle fog of night.
The road is mine, but I am not lonely. On this sojourn, solitude is a soul's companion.
Riding the peaks and valleys, where twilight blue fades to black; red tail lights wash in and out. A lone tractor trailer downshifts, then descends out of sight.
A mile marker passes, then a sign for Vermont.
We've covered two states already, Maine to New Hampshire; and the night's only just begun.

Every one of them. Yes, life needs moments when we can laugh, it helps ameliorate the pain and the harshness of reality, especially in the times we are living.
Oh, how can I forget it?😂 I think we missed him by a few minutes when he wandered off to the next town, rumor is...he had a hot date with Elise, who later inspired his most beloved work ''Für Elise''. Perhaps it was providence that we didn't find him that day🤣
@LilMissAnonyMOUSE It is essential. Restoring the spirit, and a balanced perspective during life"s trials and tribulations. A much needed antidote for these troubled times we live in.
Oh my, is that so?! Elise, yes of course!! Had we found him, we might have interfered with a divine masterwork of music scored in the heavens themselves.
"Carry on Beethoven, we'll see you in the next town!"
😄😅
(Appologies for the late reply. I'd been up to see that comet all yesterday night🌙 and dozed off mid conversation here 😂😴)
@Jessmari Oh I would love to visit Maine. Ive always wanted to go there. I luv all of your pics. Thanks so much for showing me your area! Breathtakingly beautiful! Moose are my fav animal! ☺
@Blondily I would definitely visit during the Fall. The foliage is nice. Unless you are into skiing then you'll love winter. The moose are beautiful as long as you keep your distance.
A friend of mine lived in Spokane. Of all the things, Mt. Rainier was what left a lasting impression on him.
A stunning mix of old and new, set against breathtaking scenery; you have the best of both worlds at your doorstep.
It's what most people search for in life, but never find.
I've wanted to visit the Pacific Northwest for a long time. Maybe hike the Olympic forest, and look up at the giant Sequoias, and Redwoods. Then retire to a cozy corner by a fire, and watch life go by. Rejuvenated by fresh air and open skies.
I can appreciate Issaquah's charms. It is largely what I moved to New England for. Growing up in a big city, I've come to realize how much I've missed. Our little spot closes up shop at 6 PM, and it's wonderful!
Your family is very blessed. Did you grow up there?
@Blondily i remember staying at a travel lodge in seattle in not so nice part of town...we took transit from there to a soccer game and then after that the mariners were playing the giants....we took a taxi back though...there were some scary looking people in that part 🤣
@nonsensiclesnail I love it here too. Have stayed in Spokane and driven thru it many times. Riverfront Park is very pretty. What I like about Spokane is housing is cheaper, wish it was here!
@StygianKohlrabi Very nice. I've been there on a vacation and checked out all the tourist traps, the zoo, bridge, etc. Btw, years ago I lived in San Diego.
I live at the beach where Milton came ashore. We get views like this every day.
Bugs are a big deal here so pools are screened in.
The weather in the winter is absolutely gorgeous here. The weather is so warm in the winter that heat is not a building code requirement. Most restaurants and stores don't have heat at all.
