Christians believe that God answers prayers and does miraculous healings...but why does he never ever heal an amputee?

I know this feels like a gotcha question and maybe on some level it is but mainly i'm just really curious about what Christians think the answer is.
I watched a video where this question was addressed by a panel of Christians and i was eager to finally hear some theological explanation for this problematic oversight....i was disappointed.
The completely failed to answer the question and pretended the question was more like "why doesn't god heal everyone all the time"

God seems to heal mental illness or diseases like cancer which are known to go into spontaneous remission and help people find their keys or get needed money from unexpected sources...but never grows so much as a finger back.

So, Christians....why has God never healed a single amputee?

P.s In case anyone is interested in hearing the apologist's answers for themselves:

Because they lack faith

@BritishFailedAesthetic I never said they’re punished that’s their karmic burden they need to overcome; also our destiny is to be rich and Jesus told us that ask and receive, if you think being broke is true Christianity then ur mistaken
@G0ddess It depends- some Christians are broke, others are rich.

Some Christians live in a mansion in the States, other Christians live in the slums in Nigeria.

I don't know if this is a valid answer to your question, but I'll give you some of my thoughts on it.
First of all, I very much believe in the power of prayer, believe in God and that His son Jesus came came and was sacrificed for the forgiveness of my sins and to give me eternal life in heaven after my earthly life is over.
I know many people pray when they are in need of something. Whether it be healing or money or strength, etc., to deal with something we feel we cannot handle on our own. In fact, we are beggars. Many pray to beg God for His services and His divine intervention to our needs. The Bible does state, "Ask and it shall be given unto you, but it is His will that will be done. You can pray for anything, but sometimes, (for reasons known only to God,) the answer is not what you want or expect.
I have also noticed that many people will never hesitate to pray or beg God for something, but how often do we pray or talk to God without asking for something? How often do simply talk to God to say "thank you?" Maybe, if we thanked God more often for what we have and what He has given us, some of things we pray for would be given to us.
Lastly, I think many do not realize that what we pray to or ask God for, may be given to us in ways that we do not expect. For example, if you pray for strength, you just may get more problems which in turn will make you stronger. If you pray for patience, you may get situations that will test you, pushing your patience to the limit.
Anyway, I know this probably did not answer your original question, but maybe I gave you a few things to think about and consider.
@IM5688
The Bible does state, "Ask and it shall be given unto you,[c=800000]"[/c] but it is His will that will be done. You can pray for anything, but sometimes, (for reasons known only to God,) the answer is not what you want or expect.
No. I do not choose to accept your additional commentary to the original text. The man Yeshua bar-Yosef was telling his disciples that God would give them whatever they requested.
Maybe, if we thanked God more often for what we have and what He has given us, some of things we pray for would be given to us.
So you're saying he allows bad things to happen to otherwise good people because they don't check in from time to time to say hi or thanks? That's why he lets school shooters get into the building and kill and wound hundreds of people? Are they God's enforcers, come to shoot everybody who isn't grateful enough?
For example, if you pray for strength, you just may get more problems which in turn will make you stronger.
Why? Is he not capable of simply increasing individual strength? Can he not reach in to a brain and reprogram it? Or is this like an evil genie situation, where you get your wish with a tragic plot twist, because it amuses him?

Those are called "creative miracles" - I have heard of them happing when I watched GodTV.
@Matt85

Never heard that term. Neat.
But no one ever documented such a miracle?
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@Pikachu Searching just now I found a few, but this came to my mind for some reason, which I had read about many years ago now:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1279060/Girl-grows-new-kidneys-old-ones-fail-thanks-million-genetic-quirk.html

That kind of is a creative miracle, though not as blantantly visible like a new arm or leg.
@Matt85

Absolutely amazing...but apparently down to a rare but known genetic anomaly and not intercessory prayer.
From the point of view of an atheist...

Some Christians might answer that God doesn't provide miracles just because someone believes and asks; he has a purpose and plan which has a far wider scope than any human could grasp, and it may be that he caused the amputation because that person had a specific spiritual journey that required a disability in order to learn.

(I actually know someone with a similar view, A man who was paralysed for the C7 vertebra down, no longer able to get around without a wheelchair. He lost the ability to have erections. But he said it was the best thing that ever happened to him. He had been a promiscuous player who used women. Through his disability, he learned how to have an emotional orgasm in his brain, how to give a woman pleasure, and how to have an intimate and long lasting relationship with deep love. He said he'd never give that up or trade it for anything.)

But as for the rest of the "miracle" cures of things that can go into spontaneous remission - we now know that the mind, emotions and body are not separate but one-in-the-same, even down to the levels of molecules, atoms and electrical charges. Thus, what a person believes at the deepest levels of the unconscious has a profound effect on their bodily chemistry and all internal processes. Christians and other theist might not believe it - but certainly we know that the placebo effect accounts for about one third of all healing.

@jshm2
Very few people will ever lose a limb. Hence it being nonexistent in the list of requirements to live.
I'm sure the fact that you think that is of great comfort to the one person every 30 seconds undergoing a limb amputation.

2.1 million Americans are dealing with limb loss, and that number is expected to double by 2050. Globally, there are over 1 million amputations being performed each year. And the cost of prosthetic limbs can range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the type of limb and the complexity of the prosthetic. In America, lifetime healthcare costs for people with limb loss is $509,275, compared to $361,200 for people without limb loss.

But he allows you to speak
@SW-User

Ok.
Any insight on the question at hand?
SW-User
I did not know he healed these people you have indicated.
@SW-User

Well no, i don't pray but it does pain me an i hope for a resolution though i don't know how that will be achieved.
SW-User
@Pikachu OK, we are coming to some agreement. Let’s leave it there.
@SW-User

Sure, if you like.
ProphetOfFarblesnozz · 51-55, M
They are praying to the wrong being! It has been well established that Gangleslotte came to Earth and disguised himself as the fictional being Yahweh in order to lead the followers of Farblesnozz astray!
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
According to the Jesus character, you are supposed to chop off your body parts and gouge out your eyes to keep from sinning So, why would you ever be able grow back missing body parts? All you would do is sin again.
Repete · 61-69, M
Watch , soul surfer.
Not everything is only one way. Maybe needs a different healing besides the obvious.
Just an idea or a possible different point of view.
@Repete

But surely someone at some point really just needed that arm back. But it never seems to have happened.
SW-User
Maybe worms pray with greater belief and sincerity?

As it is known that they actually regenerate body parts.

😀

The Lord knows his own.
SW-User
@SW-User Why come on a Christian group to mock. Have you nothing better to do with your life?
SW-User
@SW-User Just a light-hearted joke.

Faith is in fact very funny in a strange sort of way.

😀
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
You know how it is. God answers all prayers. It's just that sometimes the answer is "No."
@DunningKruger

lol yes i've heard that. Apparently the "heal my missing limb" prayers get a lot of "No" responses.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@Pikachu Strange how that works, isn't it?
@DunningKruger

Well yes, actually lol. Hence this thread.
redredred · M
Never forget Voltaire’s all purpose explanation,

“God’s only excuse is that he does not exist ”
@redredred

Well that is a good excuse but today i'm looking for an "in universe" explanation.
SW-User
@redredred Bet he said it in French though.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
We'll never know!

There are very, very few animals that can regrow a lost limb, at least to some extent, so it's not just us.
SW-User
@ArishMell Newts
Look up Miracle of Calanda. Although there is a question as to whether the guy was actually an amputee.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
I think He does when a person's cancer goes into remission as an example
