Im not afraid of it but it will be used for mind control, pushing fake news propaganda even further in the future for population control and mainstream brainwashing
Firstly in the relatively short term it will really hit employment as lots of companies work out what we do can be replaced with readily available ai tools. My job will go like many administrative type roles. AI will do it quicker, more consistently and it'll work 24 hours a day seven day a week, no breaks, no holidays, no need for offices, etc etc
Longer term the concerns about us not keeping enough back doors to switch it off when the president makes a pronouncement that the AI bots determines means starve all the citizens and there's no way to turn it off.
I have a few issues. I think it'll kill the culture because people won't strive to create anything, they'll just generate it through AI, things like movies, music, art, all made with zero effort or human creativity. Education: people will use ChatGPT and AI to do their research and even write dissertations. They won't learn to read source materials, they won't learn to think for themselves, they won't properly understand or comprehend the subject they are studying. Mainly, I think any evident truth will be questioned and manipulated. AI will aid widespread disinformation, video, photography, audio will be manipulated to blatantly lie and create division within society. Eventually, it'll be practically impossible to tell if a video clip has been manipulated. The World Press Photo competition is already having trouble recognising if press photos submitted have been altered digitally or not. This is a serious issue and it'll only get worse.
I hope it becomes like the terminator movies and there a huge war and we all get slaughtered.
Humanity has been around for thousands of years and we cannot work together because power currupts the hearts of man and we are all suseptible to greed. We became top of the food chain so you think we would have a utopia but instead we split into individual nations and keep up the voilence for the personal gain of a single politician. Weve been doomed since we invented currency and guns. We have to kill to eat so violence is deeply ingrained in our society.
@Musicman of course. But guns were made specifically for killing other humans. They have no other purpose. Money makes armies and nations to divide us. If we were truly a benevolent species, we would split our food equally and all starve together if the case may be. But instead wealth is horded by first world nations and the poor are used for cheap labour and left to starve
That the AI will eventually decide that Humankind is superfluous to it's continued existence and growth and it will have robots to perpetuate itself (Rise of the Machines?). Then it will decide to find some way to end Humanity, Viral, Biological, Nuclear?. That is until the first Oligarch gets killed, then they will destroy AI but it may be far too late by then as Machines don't necessarily have emotions (character traits?) like Greed unless we program it into them...
This reminds me when Ultron tells the avengers “you created the strongest polymer on earth and use it make frisbees “ That’s what I think AI will be like
Some people think it is the end of the world. AI is just the latest thing that people think, "It is really over this time". Just like how people though the rapture would happen or world war 3 ot Y2K, there was all this evidence and arguments that "This was the end" but humanity survived.
@LordBarbossa That's great news that he's at least alright - it's good to hear that he's at least alive... especially when I was reading that his phone was off at one point, too.
My biggest fear is that it's going to be used, not for personal art products, but for commercial art. Companies will no longer employ humans to create corporate logos, mascots, artwork, etc.
@Nitedoc We talked to a few agencies. They said that one of us had to have a minimum of a Masters degree. We needed a minimum annual income of $120k and a healthy white baby would cost us $65k. We also had to attend all of their parenting classes. They ran $5000 each.
