I don't have any kids. I've never been married.
In some ways, I regret never having kids, at least one.
But, it's too late for that now.

sumojumo · 36-40, M
@Chasingthesun me too, me too :) 👍
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
I have three perfect wonderful children but I really, really, really wanted six.
kimmy159 · F
@Dainbramadge That actually witheld me from starting to try for kids for quite some time. I was too scared to fuck it up (that and the situation wasn't stable enough before). Now that I have one, I can't imagine wanting 6 of those hahah ;p Or maybe that's because we had a crybaby the first 6 months.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
@kimmy159 I love everything about my kids.
I found, with all three, they only cry for three reasons.
Hungry.
Diaper is full.
Wants attention.
Oh and some times gas.
My sister was colicky and my parents didn't know what to do. But they went on to have two more.
I almost waited to long before everything was right to have them.

@Dainbramadge My husband is the "let's wait a little bit longer" type too. And then months turn into years before you know it lol. Our son has reflux, the kind where he only slept 4 hours (counted together) a day and where he cried the rest of it because he was so uncomfortable. We're pretty sure the next kid would have it too. My hubby works abroad so he's only home part time pretty much to help out. Aside from that, we want to be able to save up money for our kid(s) too and put all them through college if they so want to. We find it a tough decision whether we can do all of that for 2. (I would say maybe even 3 but he'll definitely not want that lol).
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Zero and zero. People like me shouldn't have children.
kimmy159 · F
@CrazyMusicLover I'm usually a fan of odd personalities, so you can scrap that from the list ;p
I hope the health issues and 'bad genetics' aren't too bad for you though =(
As for the trauma's, (I won't speak for you or generalize it of course,) a lot of people who know how to deal with their own trauma's (as in keeping it in check) or who can keep it from influencing other people, can actually make up some of the best parents. Some wisdom only comes from hard lessons (even if it's sad we had to learn them the rough way...)

@kimmy159 It might not seem as a big deal but then your child goes to school and can't find his or her place then he or she suffers.
I have a big scar on my belly after a major surgery. It still hurts sometimes even after so many years. It feels as if my nerves were damaged there but maybe it's just some other issue I don't know about. I've had gallstones since puberty and Hashimoto's thyroiditis since early adulthood. All that means that I would have to have a very strong motivation to risk pregnancy. Then I would have to constantly check my thyroid hormones and probably do something about gallstones...All in all, if I felt emotionally strong enough to raise a child, I'd rather adopt.

@CrazyMusicLover I understand what you mean. I never felt like I belonged when I went to school. It sucked having to go through that. But looking back to it now, I wouldn't have wanted to adapt to whatever they were like. I'm more succesfull in life than any of them who used to bully me. But not everyone can thrive from a situation like that, that I fully acknowledge.
You seem like a strong person yourself, and rational too for knowing what you want/ can handle and what not ^^ I agree, it's not something to risk your health over :0

2 and I want at least 4.
kimmy159 · F
@tallpowerhouseblonde Good communication is worth a lot :D
The "problem" is that my partner and I started dating when we were 16, kids weren't yet on our list of topics to discuss back then haha :D
Was/Is it challenging to start off with twins?
My boy is 14 months old now ^^

@tallpowerhouseblonde How long were you in labor for? :0 It sounds very exhausting ;p
Mine was (induced?) sorry my English dictionary doesn't have the right word for it yet XD They gave me pills to wake up contractions but apparently I was very resilient to their effect (although they did give me contractions). On top of that I couldn't walk around because they had to monitor the baby's reaction to the meds all the time so I just had to lay there. They broke my water manually the next day and then it still took about 5 hours before it really started happening. The baby was a stargazer, so he got stuck and they had to press my belly and use that plumbing thing to get him out 👀 44 hours later... finally held him in my arms 🤩

We have 3 but wanted 2. The second came as a pair!
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
One and done.
kimmy159 · F
@Tastyfrzz Do you sometimes wish you would've had 2 or does it have more advantages to only have 1? I'm asking because I also have one and we're seriously doubting whether to go for a second child or not :-)) We see both the plus and down sides in our own situation. Just curious how other people experience it.
WaafaS · 26-30, F

sassypants · 36-40, F
Two a son and a daughter. We have talked about having one more.
kimmy159 · F
@sassypants I do understand your concerns ^^ It's definitely something to think about.
sassypants · 36-40, F
@kimmy159 it seems like you are certain so what doubts is your partner having?
kimmy159 · F
@sassypants Our son has reflux and it made him a crybaby the first 5-6 months (in the form of only sleeping 4 hours a day if you count it together). I had a very rough time then because my husband started working abroad. Although he is home more than he is away, it's sometimes tough to do it on my own (I really admire parents who have to do it on their own, I don't think I could do it).
We're pretty sure the second one would be the same.
But his main concern is finances. We want to save up for both children if we'd have 2 and want to be able to put them both through college if they so wish. We now have a luxury position where we get to save a lot for our kid without having to sacrifice or worry too much about finances.
But to be very honest, our loans are quite heavy. If one of the 2 would lose their job and has to do a less-paying job, we'd be struggling to get by. Especially in his field, it's very tough to get another job. The contract he has now depends on the continuity of the contracts of his company so it's never certain 🤷♀️
