I was a full service gas station attendant back in 1987. It was one of the last two full service stations left in the city I grew up in. By the following year, they had both converted to self pay. I'm proud to be able to say I was a part of a dying bread. 😎

Hey, nothing wrong with trying to create jobs, only difference back then was full service gas always costed at least 10 to 15 cents more a gallon.

First real job? When i enlisted out of high school in 1986. Off to Ft Dix for basic in september, which turned out to be ideal sinc i missed hot weather.
Stuck after graduation for being out of shape (granted i was worse when i went in), i went home for Christmas and then off to AIT at aberdeen maryland to learn to be a gunsmith.
This all lasted for a 4 year enlistment plus a return gig for Desert storm.
Learned a lot actually but the lessons didnt always sink in right away.

@Arnoldjrmmer I attempted to enlist in 1990, my chosen MOS was armorer as well, BUT a fucking busted left lower leg, double compound, at the age of 12, surgically repaired, made me 4F.
Arnoldjrmmer · 56-60, M
@NativePortlander1970 its one of those things to nitpick about but armorers are unit level. I was direct support matinenace which is the next level up. Above us was depot level, the gurus who were allowed to rebuild scrap into working guns. My MOS at the time. Was 45B where i believe armorers were supposed to be 76Y (supply- tho most armorers were guys who didnt move fast enough out of the range of the 1st sgt.)
Either way, you offered to serve and were not able through no fault of your own. That is worth a 🫡.

@Arnoldjrmmer Thank you. My goal was to do my initial four years, go to OCS, have my own unit command, retire full boat after 20 years, get on with the Portland Police, do my 20 with them, then have a double pension before 50.

I worked for my uncle , a vet...a fun job, if only he wasn't so bossy. I got to love the animals, even reptiles.
Yourwildestdreams · 51-55, M
KFC, I was 15 and lied. A friend told me they got to take home left over chicken after closing at night .
I didn’t believe him, we both applied and I got the job .
Also gained 20 ponds from that summer job 😅

First summer job was working in a sawmill when I was 13. First real job after college was as a counselor for young adults in an inner-city Atlanta nonprofit.

When I was 8 or 9 I delivered flyers to the houses in my neighbourhood. At 10 I had a newspaper route. At 14 I worked at Burger King.

Roofing when I was 17. I lied about my age to get the job & I got paid under the table so they didn't ask or care
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@ChiefJustWalks your area doesn’t allow you to work at 17?
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@Jenny1234 yeah you can work at 17 here but in the US you're not supposed to be employed for any dangerous or labor intensive jobs until you're 18. It's one of those rules that's easy to break though

@ChiefJustWalks oh ok I see

First income - delivering papers.
But first clock-in type job - 15 years old, washing dishes in some restaurant.
It was actually pretty laid back. Boss never bothered me about anything.
