Which jobs require you to be a liar?

Carissimi · 70-79, F
Politician, lawyer, salespeople, for a start.
@TexChik wow! That's too funny.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@TexChik You definitely don't have to be a liar to be an attorney. I've worked with a number of very honest people who are attorneys.
The problem is that attorneys who are dishonest can do so much damage, which reflects badly on the many honest attorneys.
@DragonFruit whatever...... .
Freeranger · M
It's no secret man.....FBI, NSA, CIA.....The Presidency? At the top level, they're all federal entities with liar training.

We "commoners" held to the standards OF the law, by career and earnings understand the greater rift that extends between our existences....the "have" vs. "have-way-less" citizens.

I cry, I continue to cry for term limits....and, illustratively, I would now add, "age-limitis." No one in Congress should be serving WITHOUT a cognitive recognition test. PERIOD.

We are currently experiencing an outrage on our southern border, the attack from Russia on Ukraine, and the challenges with China because, our dirty self-serving president in the White House. His private goal has ALWAYS been about using his position for monetary gain. Let the records show, which are copious.
Of course, then there are the street captures of his cognitive 'eff-ups.....not knowing how to exit a stage, wandering, speech lapses, stumbing "up" the stairs of Air Force One.....and on and on, to say NOTHING about how much time this dried up human takes off for vacation while the world burns.

In conclusion, don't be fooled. He's not running in the next election. Dem's have a new selection in the wings but it will be all smoke and mirrors until at the last second, they yank the corrupt "Joe" and inject a "last minute" replacement based on some trumped up explanation.
It's coming.
@Freeranger I think I have to understand exactly what you're saying.... I think a lot of us Americans have finally woken up and are finally pissed off. But my question is.... Are we going to keep whining and crying or are we going to actually do something about it? I can't do it all by myself but I bet we got a lot of people who's sick of this crap and ready to take this country back.
TrashCat · M
@Freeranger You were doing good until the last paragraph when your brain melted
Freeranger · M
@TrashCat How perfect then. I've been chastised for one para.
I'll take it.
A liar? I don't know but I wouldn't have a job if I had to lie. Honesty is the only way to go and I was nothing but honest and the businesses that I ran. I can't stand the dishonest business owner. They're the losers in the wrong long run. Where is there moral standards?
Iwillwait · M
@LadyGrace Doc Preparations is a wonderful idea. Since any citizen can readily file a Claim or Motion, most won't due to the seemingly daunting paperwork.
@Iwillwait but not only that! Most will not prepare their own motions or claims because they don't know what they're doing and they can really make some big mistakes by taking shortcuts. It doesn't really pay off in the long run because there are ins and outs that most don't know. They can really get themselves in some trouble. They don't know the law. I can file my own because I was a legal secretary for 34 years. I would not suggest preparing your own documents, not even a will, because you would not believe the things that can go wrong after a person has died that affects the whole family. And if documents after one dies or filed mistakenly, oh my goodness what a mess that is and the last thing a person needs after a loved one dies, is to end up paying additional attorneys fees because they didn't file all the appropriate documents and believe me there are a lot.
Iwillwait · M
@LadyGrace Hence,The Document Preparer Companies to do that for you.
deadgerbil · 22-25
I actually got into law enforcement but I'll be the first to admit that they love to lie, which is why body cams are so essential.
Iwillwait · M
@deadgerbil Who love to lie?
@deadgerbil I don't believe all cops are dishonest but I know there are a fair share of them as well. And some very big egos too. There are many people in many different fields that just like to be dishonest because that's the type of people they are. often I see that employers especially like employees that are like this. Do it well and you get promotions.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Most management jobs and some supervisor ones too. At least that was what I witnessed at a couple jobs. They’d look straight into your eyes and lie their faces off about things.
@cherokeepatti That reminds me of a place I used to work. Profit sharing always came out on the month right when the worst quarter hits every year. And the excuse was always this.... Our sales are down and slow and machine maintenance is high. They would always find something to mention about what happened such as somebody wrecked a fork truck or a truck driver slammed into a dock and broke it or always had an excuse why something cost more than they anticipated for that year. We usually got a profit sharing but it was barely enough to cover the paper it was written on. And they always had fancy meals inside their office catered. But it was only for the office people too of course.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@IndianaJoes At the job where they were getting free catered meals the managers were getting fat bonuses for not filling all of those jobs. There was no profit-sharing for employees.
@cherokeepatti oh yeah we know that trick don't we. And the less they spend on their department the bigger bonuses they get too.

@BlueGreenGrey - oh yes, I'm definitely one of them. Someone who is sick of Liars. Someone who loves my 1st and 2nd amendments. Yes and you guessed it... A conservative who is on the winning side! You had better block me immediately!!!! Before you get the TDS. Ha ha ha haaaaa! I am definitely one of them.

once upon a time, I was an HR intern and I had to tell ALL of the applicants that we would call them even if it wasn't true. I didn't know much better
@wackidywack and then your boss would probably have to tell the poor burger flipper that he is overqualified.
PleasurePunch · 100+
@wackidywack I hope your HR doesn't ask people what's WRONG with them. Its illegal.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Espionage is the only occupation I can think of where it is essential at times to tell untruth. Jobs where telling a partial truth is an advantage mainly relate to sales work (including politics).
All of them. We don't get to decide what to do at work and we're used by the ownership instead of being members of a community. Fake allegiance or you don't get a job, you die.
Good morning, my petootie.
Somewhere it says you're required to protect your company's name. So like keeping things hush hush even when they're serving customers expired meat.
@TurtleEclipseOfTheHeart good point there. Reminds me that last year Tysen had to recall 9 million pounds of chicken. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2021/07/08/chicken-recall-tyson-foods-usda-recall-size-increase-listeria/7908510002/
ericap · 31-35, F
from my experience, it would be salesperson especially when you have too many competitors out there. in my case, our products are slightly expensive with a little high defective rate compared to my competitors' products. these 2 factors challenged my sales team to the maximum till many of them resigned due to low sales turnover.
SW-User
From my experience, an Estate Agent.
@SW-User yep and it's another sales position.
Iwillwait · M
@SW-User Real Estate Agents in the U.S.A. are prohibited from lying or not Disclosing, due to the Code of Ethics and Federal Fair Housing Acts. Should that happen, they would lose their license.
Something to consider.... Almost all politicians started life out as a lawyer.
@SW-User you're right about that.. think I'm just going to call them all liars so I don't have to figure out which type.
@SW-User Demoncraps! Yeah .... Bahahahaw... I'll never forget that one. It fits them very well

Only the ones where you're dealing with the public and you sometimes have to force a smile.

No work position should ever require you to be dishonest/lie.
@Iwillwait I agree with you 100%. No work position should ever require you to be dishonest or lie but unfortunately many don't agree with us. And they like to hold it over our heads. I've had many jobs and I have lots of experience with lots of different things and I've never been unemployed and even have people constantly offering me new jobs. Maybe that's the benefits that I reap from being honest. But when my boss expects me to be dishonest cheat steal or lie then I tell him where to stick it and I go work for somebody else tomorrow morning.
Iwillwait · M
@IndianaJoes I commend you for the bravery of leaving the "Pay Check," for ethical reasons.
PleasurePunch · 100+
pretty much everything. Unless you're self employed you have to represent your boss and you're already lying doing that. The rest is history as they say

some would bicker with this
I work for the government. I average at least 10 to 15 a day. It made me feel bad when i first started and now it feels weird when i tell the truth.

@SkeetSkeet I remember one place I worked at they had to lie about broken tools just so they could get more money in their budget for the next year to afford to keep up with what they wanted to buy new. They would actually put the tools in a band saw and cut them in half.

@TurtleEclipseOfTheHeart What drives me nuts is when they promise shit that they know they don't have and then look to everybody else to deliver
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
all of them
@lumberjackslam I agree with this. Everybody has to lie to save them or their company from lawsuits
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
@TurtleEclipseOfTheHeart yeah it's all politics. you have to be able to lie and backstab to save your own skin and not get thrown under the bus. I don't do that but most work places are completely toxic.
All sales jobs. Be suspicious of anyone who naturally gravitates to sales, whether they are selling cars, real estate, retail goods, or anything else. They're all full of sh*t.

And they're certainly the last people in the world that you want to elect to a head of state position. We don't need BS artists for POTUS.
