Oh, so many factors... Where? What's the job? Is it stressful? Is it emotionally rewarding? How much time does it take away from your life?
Some types of job simply aren't worth the pay even if it's high.

Personally, I would be satisfied with a job that would pay the basic needs but also give me a lot of freedom.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Tryingtofindabalance It's a tricky question because the more you have the more options open to you and more you want. Well, at least I know I would. I wish I could work from home or any place in the world I'd choose and I'd earn enough to cover my "base", in other words the place I would own and had to pay taxes, insurance etc. for and to cover the travel expenses and the rent in the place I would choose to work from. 😇

@CrazyMusicLover about eight years ago, my boss at the time wanted to promote me. She said that she would want me to sit in and talk about it. I thought about it, and when I sat with her the first thing that I said to her was that the pay is not worth the work...and I'm not interested (considering I can make better money at my current spot). I even brought up to her, why are bonuses capped? When you can outperform the expectation.
She agreed with me and said that she was going to look into that.
She was disappointented but understood why I didn't want the promotion.

@Tryingtofindabalance As for the number, that depends on if I would be self-employed or by some miracle on a full-time contract. Because as a self-employed person, I would have to pay taxes according to my income from the previous quarter of the year so it's hard to give a specific number.

I just offered a McDonald's worker 20 bucks an hour for 10 hours of his labor, he refused
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Thevy29 oh it's a diff dollar. Still higher than here. Nice
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@MarineBob dudes that work in the trades are hella generous. This plumber dude gave me $25 last year to help him move some stuff, it took like 10 minutes
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@Rolexeo yeah, it kinda depends where you live but trades is always good money
Adamski24 · 41-45, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout that's minimum wage 😂😂😂😂
Tracos · 51-55, M
Enough disposable income of a single job to cover housing, food, education, recreation and saving for the unexpected
Tracos · 51-55, M
@Tryingtofindabalance i love at about 1000 a month
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
@Tracos how do you afford anything at $1000 a month?
Tracos · 51-55, M
@Tryingtofindabalance modesty I guess... And I must admit I paid off my mortgage
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
depends where you live....
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
@therighttothink50 what do you personally think a good wage is regardless of place you live or what you do…. All things equal
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
There is no such thing. Cost of living is different everywhere. And I would like to go everywhere once again! This time with some money instead of none!..

Yet there simply is no way to figure it out! It still would vary from place to place.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
I wish there was an equation for that, like the one that tells you what's a good average age for a dating partner for you.
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
@Dan193 as a higher wage earner… you’d be surprised how much your paying out in takes… to take home 100,000 you probably need to make close to 150-175k a year
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Tryingtofindabalance Idk man 100k would be enough for me to live life the way I want to, but when there is talk about making 175k a year, I'd try to write off as much as I can. That's a lot of money to just let to go away.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@Tryingtofindabalance At $175k you might not clear $100k if you’re single. If you’re married, you would.
Ferric67 · M
A quarter of your wage/salary goes towards your mortgage
Ferric67 · M
@Dan193 basic necessity bills within reason would be perhaps another quarter
Ferric67 · M
@Tryingtofindabalance I'm not planning on buying an island...just to own maybe five acres along a shore line.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Ferric67 thats a good equation to guide yourself by, tjanks.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
One that reasonably covers the local costs food, shelter, utilities and transportation. Anything above this level can justifiably be taxed to provide basic requirements for the less fortunate.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Living in the Northeast US, for a family, $150k would be tight. At about $250k things get much easier.
Allelse · 36-40, M
1/19TH RATION AND A BEATING A DAY!!!!! And the serfs should be thankful for that!
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
In NYC minimum for an individual is 110k for a family it’s 235k.
Fertilization · 36-40, F
I am not so sure about it.

But all I know is when you keep a good and sound bank balance after covering up all your expenses and donating 20% of your income to whatever charitable organisation you support to maintain a balance in the society; then there you are in the right direction.

Just my opinion
I might be wrong.
SOFYANERADI · 22-25, M
The concept of a "good" salary or wage can vary greatly depending on a variety of factors such as the individual's location, cost of living, industry, experience level, and personal circumstances. What may be considered a good salary for one person might be different for another.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
50k, 40k is doable
@Rolexeo for a month maybe
Probably depends on where you live. And what you think is comfort. I'm in ohio and can't complain, feeding a family of 7 and family's income is about 85k. No disney vacations or eating out often but I feel like we have enough. happy.
Repete · 61-69, M
Depends on so many things but for me I figured it happened when I learned , I can spend what I make easier than I can make what I can spend. I don’t make much but I don’t owe a bank anything , no bills means my good wage can be a lot less than most others.
Trekker · 51-55, M
Ability to afford a roof, utilities and phone, food, medical care, and retirement for family. Extra for fun stuff. After taxes etc.

For me, that's about US$30/hr but doesn't include retirement or medical.
Penny · 46-50, F
well really nowadays you need to make like a 100k to go it alone and do it nicely, but it all really depends on alot of factors. some can get by on less
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
@Penny what do you want to make to live the life you want to live?
Penny · 46-50, F
@Tryingtofindabalance well, id hope my kids owuld make at least 50k thatsabout what you really need ot live somewhat comfortably. as far as what i want to make, i am happy enough with my life. i dont need a lot of money to be happy. as long as i have a decent roof over my head, a car and food and some spending money i am happy. but i am old and well travelled. if i was young id try to make more so i could travel.
BittersweetPotato · 31-35, F
Enough for me to live a comfortable life and save a little. Comfortable is relative, but for me, it means just not having to stress about money, but i am not after luxurious lifestyle.
Asking for a friend............but don't you think you should have narrowed it down a bit? Is this a good salray for cleaning toilets...........driving a truck.............or running a company?
Jobs killing the ecosystem, jobs unable to support society - let's fight each other for one. Bring it on.
I make it all, here! Mine.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I guess it depends on where you are,!in USA the GOP says 3.00 an hour is too much, and pushing for child slavery.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I’m still earning 2010 wage. It should be $10 more an hour then what it is.

@geoam1 thank you. I’m just curious on what people feel. Had a recent conversation about this with some friends and just thought it was crazy the amount of money they think they need
100k always felt like the magic number. It really means just a fuckload more tax
Depends on the variables...
originnone · 61-69, M
100-150k depending on the area
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M

@Bang5luts so how much do you need to make to live the life you want to live?
Bang5luts · M
@Tryingtofindabalance I'm content with what I have tbh. Other people need the money more than I. I have home, suv, clothes, food, 1/4 tank of gas. Other people need a home, a vehicle, food, clothes etc
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
That depends on where you live
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@FeetAreFantastic what do u think would be a good salary for that
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
@Dan193 I have no idea. I'm not American. I don't know really the cost of living here. I don't know what a president really needs either and what that all costs.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@FeetAreFantastic oh ok thats fair
empanadas · 31-35, M
