Do you celebrate Thanksgiving or not ? 🥧🥧🥧

Of course we know by now that US history is often fabricated. I understand why a Native American person would be offended by this holiday. Nevermind the privilege and benefits they may have today. The truth is that we need not try to tell others how they should feel about their past. More often than not some still feel the pain of the past and the current issues with race today, only pours salt on the wound. 🧂
The Natives are a forgotten people.
We should never forget what they have endured regardless of what you are personally.
Do you celebrate Thanksgiving ?
If so, then why or why not. 🤔

No, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Camelia Isn't there a holiday like Thanksgiving there ?
Camelia · F
@Zonuss Guy Fawkes Day is November 5th; nevertheless, it is not at all like Thanksgiving.
Actually we did. It’s called harvest festival. And Thanksgiving derives from the Prayer of General Thanksgiving in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. The early settlers to the States and Canada took this with them.

And oddly we used the word fall for autumn in the seventeenth century, then list it from our vocabulary.
@sunriselover Yes, I stand corrected. It derives from a much earlier date. Harvest festivals were national holidays in England until Henry eight abolished them in 1538.

@sunriselover Henry the King was ruthless.
It’s another holiday. Personally I am not big on the “feast/food” aspect of it.

I look at this country supposedly a great one and look at the major cities with massive homelessness ( but get suddenly cleaned up for visits by foreign leaders-SF) and other issues and areas where our “ leaders” can do better but choose not to. In that respect I try and remember those less fortunate,,ergo…just another day.

Thanksgiving is an American custom
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Strictmichael75 Correct.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Strictmichael75 It's also celebrated in Saint Lucia and Grenada.
Torsten · 36-40, M
no, im not American. Thanks giving is not a thing where i am
Jill1990 · 31-35, F
I celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. These have become family holidays, not celebrations of past events. I don’t think about pilgrims on Thanksgiving or Jesus at Christmas. I think about my family and what it means to be together.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Jill1990 Yes. It's important to celebrate things and focus on family.
exexec · 61-69, C
We celebrate as a family, giving thanks for all that we have and for people in our lives. We don't talk about the first Thanksgiving myth, even though one ancestor and one uncle probably were present.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
Not really part of the culture here in Singapore. Tho Halloween crept in over the last ten years or so, even if it's not our culture too.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Longpatrol I see.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
No thanksgiving tradition in my country, I don't think Europeans have that tradition at all.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Queendragonfly Erntedankfest is celebrated in certain countries over there.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
It´s not a traddition in my country.

And I also stand for the dignities and rights of the originals here.
Oh, here come the water works 😆

And no, I don't celebrate it as I live in the UK and am not American.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
As an American yet pre-United States holiday, I dig it.
Convivial · 26-30, F
Wrong country.... Simple as that
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Yes,always.

Zonuss · 41-45, M
@tenente Ok.
